View Full Version : Dell 6000 Laptop
My question is concerning is there any software utility that I can use to check the temp of my dell 6000 laptop?
I have checked on the BIOS and I do not see it listed.
Anyone else have this laptop and experiencing any troubles?
Also is it worth getting a laptop cooler to perserve the life of the laptop?

The first place to check is your BIOS. It should be listed under pc health status or some similar name. Next, you may have something bundled with your motherboard utilities. You can download a free utility such as Health Monitor (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/healthmonitor/) to check.

My sister has a Dell laptop and it runs hot, too. But I noticed that many laptops run hot. I wouldn't work with one directly sitting on my lap.

You can use a laptop stand that allows air to pass under it. You can even install fans or keep a regular fan nearby to circulate air. You probably don't want to open your laptop, but if it is no longer under warranty, you can open it to remove dust which can act as insulation. You can also remove and replace the heatsink compound on your processor. (Do not do this unless you are very careful and know how.)
You will want to find ways to keep your laptop cooler. Most ways are the same as desktop PCs. You probably already know to store the computer somewhere where it is not to hot, sunny or humid. Keep air circulated and dirt away from it as much as possible.
