i get a error message when i open my RAR files why?

for some resone i get an error message when i try to open my RAR files i get this error message (the archive is either in unknown format or damaged) why am i geting this message and is there a way around this problem.:confused:


PS. what i have in thes RAR files is very improtant

The file is corrupt. You can get around that problem by restoring it from a backup. Hopefully you have a backup of important files. Otherwise, you can try to repair the file with third party software.

You can download their tool and see if you can open the archive. If it works and you want to extract the files you have to buy the product. It's $149, but if the files are that important it might be worth it. There might be a freebie program out there, but I didn't see it on my Google search.

make sure you're using a recent version of winrar too. I've gotten that when trying to open a rar file that was compressed using a newer version of the software than what I had.

I second the advice by satis, I used to run into that problem often as well.

Maybe try Winace as well if Winrar doesn't work.
