I used powweb for hosting and registering a domain. It says that the domain is active and the website works using it as a subdomain of powweb but the direct URL doesn't work. Why?

prettytheworld.com

however prettytheworldcom.powweb.com works

If you just now registered it, it will take anywhere from 12 to 72+ hours before it becomes available by its 'real' name.

When you did you set up your package & domain?

Your domain should work within 48-72 hours. The reason for this is simple, your website address & info has to go through every DNS (Domain Name Server, basically the server that tells your computer where to go when you type in prettytheworld.com) server in the world, causing delay, this term is called DNS Propagation. Also, your ISP`s DNS server has to refresh before your site becomes viewable in everyones browser.

The reason the subdomain works is because Powweb`s servers have sucessfully completed DNS Propagation, however, your site has not. Like I said it will take anywhere from 24-48 hrs. to become viewable and then you can stop using the subdomain to access your site and start using your .com.

Hope this helps!!

I would give another 24-48 hours more to complete the propagation. If it takes any longer than that just shoot Starr or Andrew an e-mail and they will take care of it!

Good Luck!

sometimes..... if you're on a cable connection..... the ISP's use URL Caching....... sometimes 7 - 10 days before they refresh....

so if it takes longer than 72-hours..... "whcih I cannot not see the URL at this time from S.C."....... it could be your ISP......

there are work around.... if needed.... but the temp domain... is for the purpose.... of getting the site setup..... and tested while you're waiting on DNS to propogate.....

Yeah I've been using it.. I already have the site up using the temp address and I've been adding stuff to the SQL database. So I guess there isn't much more do to but sit and wait. Thanks so much for all the responses and help.. you guys are awesome
