View Full Version : Messed It Up

I am pretty much a rookie "webmaster". I use Dreamweaver3. Last night I changed the home page on our site, www.southernthundersingers.org. I did nothing else but remove the old page and replace it with the new one. When I now try to log onto the site I get a page that is "Index of /" instead of the "index.html" page that I used to get. Obiviously I messed something up. I've tried to check everything, including reading all of the posts for ideas, but probably can't see the forest for the trees.
Also, when I try to access my OPs, it will not accept my username/password/email entries.
Any suggestions as to what I may have missed or need to review?
Thanks in advance.
I dont think the OPS issue has anything to do with how you uploaded your files. Since your site is active, I know you should have access to ops. You just might not be using the correct password.
I think you uploaded your index.html file outside of htdocs. You must have all your public html files inside htdocs. I would get ahold of a real FTP application and look at where your files are within your websites directory structure. I think you will find that you put your site,,,or the latest index.html,,,in the wrong place.

when i clicked on the htdocs link, i got your main page...
do you have an htdocs folder within your htdocs folder? when you're connected, you should see
-cgi-bin
-etc
-htdocs
-logs
-webstats
make sure you upload all your data to the htdocs folder. if you don't see those folders, perhaps your ftp settings are not correct, i.e., you've identified a host directory folder (you shouldn't have to).

Thanks for the help...everything appears to be okay again, plus I learned a little in the process. Most of the time I just read the threads and don't have to post, thanks to all of you kind folks who are willing to take the time to help with your advice.
