View Full Version : Suggestions for DVD backup software?
I am considering making backups of my DVD collection (100+ discs) in order to keep the originals pristine and avoid scratching them.
A secondary goal of this is to remove the prohibited user operations feature (P-UOPS) from the discs so I can skip by the annoying ads and warnings and just get to the !@$&!@ movie.
I have access to a dual-layer external USB2 DVD writer already. So all I need now are suggestions from other people already doing this on easy to use software that also makes it easy to remove P-UOPS and just make a quick copy. Other than the P-UOPS removal, I want to keep the disc layout and content intact.
Any suggestions?

I don't have anything to add really.. just had to kid with you. ;)
I use DVD Shrink for my backing up. It rips a full DVD (including menus), crushes it down to fit on a single layer DVD and then lets you burn it.
Personally, I've never had issues with the software, though I know some people that have it crash when it attempts to burn. However, it rips all the vobs and whatnot to your harddrive, so you can use something else (like Nero) to burn the vobs.
Best of all, it's free. :)

To my knowledge, DVD Shrink does not support dual-layer dvd.

The point of DVD Shrink is to take a dual-layer movie and make it fit on a single layer disc.
Anyone ever tried DVDFab Decryptor (http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm)?
There's plenty of information about these things at http://www.videohelp.com/
CloneDVD2 works great, you can choose what chapters to include and if you want a menu or not. you can increase the quality by eliminating audio streams in different languages or other things you are not interested in.
There is other software you can run with it to break copywright protection on some DVD's but that information is for a different forum.
well, some people would consider removing regioning to fall under fair use. :)
also, if you're trying to burn DVDs to CDs and have a dvd player that will play SVCD, check out DVD2SVCD. It's extremely good, considering the complexity usually involved in that sort of thing.
