I am really concerned about getting my new site shutdown when I go live with it. I just spent the last two months learning to use my CMS (Joomla) and customizing it, I've purchased a new hosting package just for the site BUT, now I'm really starting to worry about POWs limits.
I have always been concerned with the GIG limitations (no longer an issue with the crazy amount that's now allowed). Yesterday, while reading on the forum, I happened to notice a thread about being shut down for exceeding the 72,000 per hour query limit.
Since there is no way to check how many queries my pages create through Member Ops, I activiated the Debugging feature in Joomla.
My home page generates 89 queries and my forum page generates 202 queries per view. I enabled page cache-ing and it reduces the homepage total by about half but, the forum won't budge under 200.
MY QUESTION:
I'm not expecting to have a massive member base but, 15,000 is pretty realistic (I already have 8,000 members on another site that will more than likely join the new site). I would think my site will have no more than 4-5 dozen users online at any given time (though it could peak 2-3 times higher). I expect the forum to be the most popular place. Users will probably average around 15 forum pages viewed per visit.
SHOULD I BE WORRIED WITH THESE NUMBERS???
I know there's no simple answer. I've put so much time into this site, the last thing I want is to have it shutdown.
It seems like such an arbitrary system for determining MySQL abuse (waiting for complaints of slowness or signs of resource drain on a particular server). Not being able to see an hourly query total somewhere leaves me in the dark. Instead of celebrating as my site becomes more popular, I'll be worrying about getting shutdown :worried2:
I know the most likely answer is going to be "find a new hosting company" but, I really am at home here. I've got 6 sites on POW and, two years ago I tried the dedicated server route with BURSTnet, it was a nightmare. I like a little challenge but, admin-ing a server was way too much work. If there's an option between POW and the Dedicated Server route, I'd love to hear it (in a PM). POW with a greater allowance for queries is all I would need.
Sorry for the long post but, I've spent so much time on putting my new site together, it's really put a LOT on my mind.
Thank you for any feedback!
