View Full Version : 403 Forbidden by web configuration
Went to my website today and I saw this message. Does Powweb has some problems with cluster 05? I have had this website for the past 4 years and never had any problems what so ever. I'm using 2,5gb bandwidth in 14 days, so I doubt it has anything to do with to much bandwidth usage. So if someone from Powweb could give me a clue on what has happend, since all my files is allso gone and it's just replaced by a .htacces file. My website is www.hope4sims.com
Thank you in advance

Check your email (that powweb has on file).
Also check the history tab in OPS (for previous messages sent to you). You can also call/chat/email support.
That's the wierd thing... I haven't gotten any e-mail from them, my history is clean... nothing changed there since March 2004... And since I live in Norway - calling them would be really expencive, so I don't know *shrug*
Got it fixed by loading old data's, but I still wondering why this did happend thou ^^
Got it fixed by loading old data's, but I still wondering why this did happend thou ^^Did you change anything in your .htaccess file?
A few weeks ago I mis-configured the ...
order allow,deny
deny from x.x.x.x
allow from all
in .htaccess while trying to deny an ip address from my site & received the same message until I corrected it.
oki, this must be a joke... open my web browser to check my site and I can't access my site again. Get this message: This domain was registered with PowWeb.

Coming Soon!
I haven't touched any files on my website for months... I uploaded an old back up file and everything worked out just fine yesterday and now this? So powweb what is going on?
Hi,
I'm on cluster07 and I'm getting 403 errors as well. I can't see my site at all, "403 forbidden" is all I receive.
Strange...I can still FTP fine.
I can't even do that. When I went to my Site tool to take a new back up, I only got eternal error. When I use my ftp klient, there is nothing there.... looks like the whole website has been errased...
I checked your directory, and /htdocs directory seems missing ...
Yesterday, there was only .htaccess in the /htdocs, but it wasn't giving any error.
Maybe your OPS/FTP password is compromised.
Change all passwords, check the security of your home machine, too.
If not, maybe you deleted/renamed /htdocs by yourself.
My password was changed yesterday. I haven't touched my website. since I updated it 1 year ago. So no... I have not deleted anything what so ever. Deffently not deleted my htdocs or anything else on my website. I'm running a forum board to my site and it was going to my board, when I noticed my site was down. It has worked fine until yesterday... no changes has been made at all. The only thing I did yesterday, was follow the tip I got when e-mailing powweb techsupport.
When I now go to my member operation site and to Sitetool. I got this message.
"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@hope4sims.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

I haven't touched my website. since I updated it 1 year ago.
Possibly that is the cause of your problem.
Scripts (especially many of PHP scripts) require constant updates.
Anyway, you need to restore your site with FTP or OPS (You may need to create /htdocs before to use SiteTools).
I don't have any php script on my website. The only php script there is, it's on my forum board, which is on www.hope4sims.com/Division. My website is written with html codes, nothing fancy at all, but I'm going to follow your advice and make a new htdoc file and see if that will work.
I got my website up and running again. I made a new htdocs folder and got my site tool back again. Uploaded my website again by using old backup files through Sitetool. Went back and wanted to download a zip file of the backup, but just got the same error.
It's there. Always REMEMBER to clear the browser cache when you test your site.

oki, it has happend AGAIN! logging to my website - cashe is empty, everything in temp file is deleted in my web browser... I have ran addaware, virus protector and nothing... I'm running a router with a built in firewall and there is a built in firewall in my ISP modem... so double firewall. This can't be from my end. I restored files with the backup tool from Sitetool yesterday... and the day before yesterday and today.... all gone AGAIN! So what's up? I have used powweb for more then 4 years now and never had any problem. I have not recived any mails from powweb and my history in my ops is empty. Anyone know what's going on?
*goes off to make another htdocs file* *sigh*
As I said before, your home machine and/or your account is compromised, most likely through the script.
When you restore, disable that Forum and also the ipchat.
If it happens again without scripts, then you need to do more serious check on your home machine.
Well I got my site back up again, by using the backup tool provided in OPS. I have turned off the forum board - I don't have any IPchat, if I do it's not enabled... and the only thing left is reinstall windows. I doubt this has something to do at my end....
What do you mean about my home machine/account is comprimised?
If you didn't do it by yourself, someone else is doing it, most probably.
Unless someone has an access to your home machine or to your account, s/he cannot do that.
nope... only me has access to my account and the only one who has access to my comp is my 7 year old daughter and she can't even read or write english... doubt she would be that technical to delete anything on my site. ;) I just have to wait and see...
It would be useful to find out what exactly changed on your site to cause the problem to show.
no changes has been made what so ever. The only thing I have done a month ago was to upload some screenshots from wow which I have taken ingame. That's the only changes which has done to the site it self. It all is in www.hope4sims.com/wow - it's just a directory, not even a site... so I don't know *shrug*
A possible back door into your site:
Powered by Invision Power Board(U) v1.3.1 Final © 2003 IPS, Inc.
Current version is 2.1.5 -- you should upgrade if possible. http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=208568

What I meant was - you "fixed" the problem by restoring from backup. What was the difference between the site before you restored it and after?
nothing... just the same as before... except some posts on the forum boards. I went to my forum to check for new posts, it was then I saw that it was down. Checked of course my website and only found a 403 error. Cheked to see if I had recived any mails from powweb and to check if my account there where active. Non mails and everything active. Sent a message to tech support after browsing this forum. Got a message back about making a new htdocs folder and to uploade an older backup. Did that. Next day, site was down again, with the message about "This website is hosted by Powweb, blah blah blah" checked my ftp and saw that everything was gone... again... This has happend twice now. Will give it until tomorrow to see if this happend again....
By compare I don't mean look at your site in a browser - I mean compare the files on the server with your private copy (or backup) to see what files changed or are new (or missing.)
