Hello folks!

I have a need to set up a simple network volume for multiple users on PC and Mac to access my ftp directory. Any one know 1.) if this is even possible; 2.) what commands/keystrokes/utilities that will allow WIndow XP and Mac OS X to automatically appear as a remote volume on the desktop? 3.) How to set up this remote directory with some subdirectory as password protected. :D

Thanks for your help in advance...

On Windows there are no "commands or keystrokes" to do this. You need to install something like "Internet Neighborhood" to let you mount an FTP site as a network drive.

Thanks, Mirzabah, for the info.

I assume "Internet Neighborhood" is an utility that I can purchase?

Yes. There may be free equivalents.

Start/My Network Places

Add a new network place
Choose another network location
when prompted for the address, use ftp://[whatever your ftp server is]

That will create a folder in "My Network Places"

At that point, you can use it in the regular file environment. To open it later, go to My Network Places and open it. Many programs can then operate on it normally.

Don't know how to set it up under a Mac, though. Password protecting the sub-folders is another question - I'm not sure it can be done easily without just creating links to the subfolder instead (at which point you can have different FTP logins going to different sub folders anyways, and avoid the issue)
