I am attempting to upgrade a Compaq 1255 laptop to Win 2000 Pro. Originally the OS was Win 98.
O Have the OS installed. The modem is listed in the hardware profile but is no working. I searched the internet for the drivers for the Lucent 56K-DF LT Winmodem and found drivers for Win 98 but not Win 2000. Any suggestions to get drivers for this modem to operate on Win 2000?

Is this a built-in modem or a PDM-CIA card modem? If the latter, I'd just get a newer modem, plug it in and go with that. Maybe even if the modem is built in I'd do the same -- it's just not worth the effort to fight it.

Good luck,
Kevin

I recently did a clean install of the OS using windows 98 SE on a Compaq 1255 Laptop. The install went ok although the screen resolution is very poor. I went to the HP/Compaq site and found all drivers except for VGA drivers. Any suggestions? Thanks

Google yields nothing. Stab in the dark, but have you tried Windows update?

What video card does the system report as being in the computer? This might help track down the Video card driver.

Try doing a Google search for +compaq +1255 +vga +drivers. I found this one: http://www.downloadpcdrivers.com/Video-Adapters,Compaq.html

Look down the page for SP15517.exe, that shows up as driver for the Presario 1255 video running under 98 and 98SE.

I saw that Doc C and a few others, but if you go to Compaq's site and search the exe's they don't match up. SP15517.exe according to Compaq's site is for a Whitney 810 and was specifically released to fix a problem when upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows Me.

You might try this link. It's for the 95 version of the NeoMagic video card that was standard in the 1200 series so it might work.
