My roommate has a Compaq Presario 5304 with Windows 98 Second Edition. When she boots the computer, she has to login using her sister's old login. How do I delete that login?
Somewhere in the control panel will be 'users'. This is where you'd either create a new user, or delete the old one - or set it not to need a login.

OK. I did that. The wizard started up, so there's no users setup. How do I delete that login screen? I believe it comes from Microsoft Family Logon. I might be wrong.
I don't have a Win98 machine available so can't help further from memory.
Maybe someone else can, or has a Win98 machine available to work it out.

OK. I found the answer and it does work!
Right click on the NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD icon on your desktop and select PROPERTIES.
Click CONFIGURATION tab ,select WINDOWS LOGON in primary network logon box and Click OK.
It prompts you to restart, click NO.
Click START button. Choose SETTINGS then CONTROL PANEL.
Click PASSWORDS then on the CHANGE PASSWORD button.
Click Change Password button click ok, leave a blank password.
NOTE: (you must know the old password you selected for this to work.)
in win98, there's no real password security.
You can probably hit escape and just get past the logon screen without logging in.
You might be able to delete all your *.pwl files in your windows directory...those store the login information.

Yes, hitting Esc will bypass the screen, but the instructions in my previous post eliminated the login screen completely and it has not returned. :)

I still use Windows 98 SE, but I didn't see this post until now. I didn't like Windows 2000 Pro, because I couldn't get drivers for all my stuff. Windows XP Pro was bloated and both of those OSes got hit with the blaster worm. When my son was five years old, he confused my husband on the computer running 2000 when he changed the admin login. Those who have used 2000 know that there is no real security there, either.
