Hello,

I have been trying to find something to convert old slide images onto our computer. We already have two scanners, so we don't need another one. On the other hand we don't want to spend major dollars on this project either. Is there a software program that will allow my scanner (Canon F50 & Umax) to do this? Our Umax came with Vista Scan and has the capabilities to scan. However, I've since lost the VistaScan disk. Also, the scanner is tempermental and has been since day one. Is there a relativily inexpensive scanner that plugs into the USB port and is small? Everyone on this board has always been so helpful I thought I could once again turn to the knowledgable PowWeb members. Thanks in advance! Julie

Have you tried looking on e-Bay for a slide scanner. The UK version has many at reasonable prices but postage would be too high to get them to the US.
Here's one example from the US:http://cgi.ebay.com/SEALED-HP-SCANJET-5590-5550C-SCANNER-W-SLIDE-ADP-ADF_W0QQitemZ9714152748QQcategoryZ44978QQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem

It runs out soon so you'll need to be quick!

I've got a HP Scanjet, (can't remember the model number) and no special software is needed for slides or negatives as far as I can remember. A program like PaintShop Pro can change negatives to positives quite easily.

I've looked at some pages for the F50 and it looks like it's a multi-function printer/scanner/fax machine. You'd need an adapter of some kind to backlight the slides or negatives to get the best results. I couldn't see any mentioned. Software can't do the backlighting so a new/used scanner that has the capabilities of slides and negatives is what you're looking for.

This person explained a similar method to one I had used. I had used a shadow box to video photographs, so I thought I could do a similar method with a scanner to scan photographs or slides.

You can download scanner software or drivers from the scanner manufacturer's website. Sometimes they let you purchase the software on a cd. I may have the software you need, but I may need to look for it. I packed stuff to move and it may not be easy to find.
