Can anyone tell me what software to purchase that will convert my WMV to DVD? I use Adobe Premier 6.5 to make the MPEG-1 and then convert to WMV. The Adobe software did not come with DVD capabilities. Here is the link to my WMV's. Thanks. Allen

that should work, it does dvr-ms files as well and they are not listed, they should do wmv files as well.

I downloaded the VSO ConvertXtoDVD with no problem and placed the WMV's in the window to convert. It converted my WMV's in no time and made a log. I then hit the ACTION button to BURN the DVD. The only problem was when it asked me to put in the media, DVD, I did and the prompt for BURN did not light up. Only the Cancel was highlighted. I am using a Dell laptop that can play both CD and DVD, but it does not have a burner. So, my question is can my laptop read a blank DVD, (by the way, I bought the Memorex DVD + R with 16X) or do I need another step to now burn my project. If you know the answer, I would appreciate it. How can I now burn my
DVD? :( Thank you. Allen

Now the weirdest thing just happened. I placed a regular CD in the drive and burned it. It opened just like a DVD with the same menu? How is that possible. Now, will that regular CD play in DVD player and what format should I make multiple copies from? Very confused.

Well, now I really need your help. I just bought and returned 4 types of DVD's. My software program loaded all 7 of the converted WMV to DVD and now asked to burn. When I put in my CD/DVD drive the following 1. DVD-R 2. DVD+R. 3. DVD-RW. 4. DVD+RW., neither worked. The window opened up and asked me to insert a writable media in the selection device and the burning process will start automatically. Nothing else happened. Can anyone help!!! Thanks. Allen

The Memorex dual layer 16X handles a wide range of disc media and is capable of reading DVD-ROM discs and burning DVD+R discs at 16X (DVD-R discs record a bit slower at 8X) and recording DVD+/-RW discs at speeds up to 4X. CDs are also supported at reading and burning speeds to 48X and rewriting speeds to 24X.

Your DVD+RW discs should be writable to. Did you get Nero or WinDVD with the burner? What software are you using? are you sure it's a DVD burner and not just a reader? It will tell you on the box. Did you install the drive? You may have got a connection wrong.. but it burnt a CD so sounds ok.

You're laptop has the standard CD burner/DVD reader. That's why it burned a CD but won't burn a DVD. It doesn't matter what kind of DVD blanks you buy. It's not going to work.

According to Doc C, and to answer Croc Hunter, my laptop is only a DVD reader. Did not realize that when I downloaded the Software program. If that is the case, how can I accomplish the next and most important step, which is to complete the conversion and BURNING of WMV to DVD. Can I purchase an external piece of equipment that will actually BURN THE DVD project? If so, what do you suggest for a Dell Laptop Windows XP. Thanks again. Allen

Any DVD Re-writer in a USB external box should work, provided you've got the software installed correctly.

Can you give me the names of a few that you suggest so I can go to Circuit City and pick it up. Also, would the software come with the box or would I have to download the software separately. Thank you.

Need your opinion between an internal removeable upgrade DVDRW and a external DVDRW USB. This is for my laptop. The cost is $199 for the internal from Dell and the cost is $81.86 for LITE-ON external. They both support double layer lazer writing. Thanks. Allen

I have a LITE-ON drive I placed in an external box - it works fine on my Acer laptop.

As for makes, as I'm in the UK, the makes/models may be different here so I'll refrain from specific make/model recommendations.

Go the Lite-On external burner. As it's USB I think you'll find it will work on your laptop and desktop pc. I bought an internal Lite-On DVD/CD reader writer for my tower $40. It's done alot of work and stil working fine. Working with mutimedia esp DVD you'll need plenty of RAM and a third of your disk space free for best performance.

When you buy the burner ask if has burning software. My Lite-On came with the whole WinDVD suite. You can't simply drag and drop VOB DVD files onto a DVD disc. You need to use a program like WinDVD, Nero, Pinnacle or similar. These will take (in your case) your WMA convert to DVD and burn to disk in a few easy steps.

Yes, I think the Lite-On external DVDRW external burner is the way to go. One model has Light Script built into the drive that allows the user to write on the CD and make it look professional. That costs $158. Without the Light Script, I can get it for $80. It comes with Nero software and think that is the way to go. Thank you. Allen
