View Full Version : not getting email via OUtlook

I have had my account set up for years to receive my emails via Outlook.

Today for some reason I keep getting an error message..

I thought maybe the email servers were down, but I was able to log into webmail and sure enough all of my incoming emails are there, yet I cant load from Outlook....

For some reason, I do appear to be able to send email from Outlook though.

I know powweb sent out an email the other day talking about migration, but it didnt say anything about reconfiguring Outlook.

Can anyone help?

Which mail server are you on?
Which version of Outlook?
As I've posted many times, if you've not conciously changed anything, check your firewall, AV program and Windoze for automatic updates that may have altered something. It's not that long ago a few patches for Outlook were issued, maybe you've recently installed them (automatically?).

I don't think so guy.... it was working fine one minute, and then with NO ACTION, no updates to anything it wasnt working.

It does appear to be working this morning though.

It does appear to be working this morning though.Mines been working all along. I only offered the suggestions as possible causes having seen those end up being the reason many times when people have posted 'My Outlook stopped working' without giving error messages, mailservers or domain names to asssist. :D We can only work with what we're (NOT) given. ;)

thanks for holding true my belief that people outside the states are smug and arrogant :-)

Did you ever get Outlook working again? Mine stopped earlier today with exactly the same symptoms ... It was working fine, then just stopped. Webmail shows mail in the mailbox - POP3 just can't seem to get it!

Any thoughts appreciated ...

Next time when you mention an error message, post it. It will make it easier in case someone had the same error and can point you in the right direction. It's like saying I'm lost but not saying where you want to go.

Not sure about Brian's but mine is the following Outlook message

Task 'PThawley - THinc Email - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to
receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

I have gone through my configuration per PW recommendations and all appears fine. Not to mention, it has been working fine for years so ...

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I'll ask again, even I get shot down again. Which mail server and what is the domain name?
