I am having difficulty getting Windows XP to go on this Gateway Performance 800 machine that a friend of mine owns. It has 256MB PC133 SDRAM and a 60GB Maxtor hard drive that I put in it. I may have to replace the motherboard since Windows won't install on this computer. I have replaced the IDE cables, hard drive, memory and cd-rom. The only other thing I can think of is BAD IDE controllers. Any ideas?
UPDATE: Used the Gateway CDs and finally got Windows ME back on the machine. Apparently the hard drive and memory upgrade solved the problem, but I really hate Windows ME!!
