I just reinstalled Me on a friend's computer and there are no desktop icons even though C:\Windows\Desktop shows there to be several. Where do I fix this?

I'm talking about My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc
In XP you right click on the desktop (empty in this case).
Select 'properties'
Select 'Desktop' tab
Select 'customise desktop'
From there you can select which items such as 'My Computer' etc that is shown on the desktop.
From memory, this is similar to Win98 so Win ME won't be too different.

Why would My Computer, Recycle Bin, My Documents and others not be visible by default? Also, it appears that right click does nothing.
They aren't visible by default because that's the way Bill and his boys designed it.
Someone else will have to field an ME question. I never found any use for it either at home nor work.
If it were me, I'd wipe the drive, use the ME disk as a coaster and load XP. But that's just me.
Maybe it has something to do with using active desktop... Check those settings in the display properties.

OK. The computer has now been returned to its owner. Thanks everyone!
I use ME on my old machine. These 3 items are visible by default, in fact you cannot hide them. I tested and I was sucessful in creating additional desktop icons by dragging them off the menu as shortcuts.
Right-click does nothing? If nothing happens when you right-click then you really must have screwed the install up. Is this an authorized copy of ME? I'd wipe the drive and start over.
I did not do the install. A friend did it with the Gateway restore CD's that came with the computer because I did not have the time. The machine is gone now, so it does not matter. Maybe I can convince her to buy a new Dell.
I own two Dell machines and I've never heard that. Thanks for the info!
