View Full Version : Incremental Migration?
Is there a posibility of incremental migration? One of my sites has several subdomains with different sites and applications (main site, blogging system, etc.) We're redoing our main site in the next month or so, so would rather not go through the pain of migrating the old one. We're also going to add some new systems soon (forum, egroupware), so would rather just do these on the new system. We manage our own DNS listings, so theoretically could have subdomains pointed to the new or old systems as they are ready. Is this scenario feasible?
thanks!
Steve.
It seems to me it is entirely possible for you to do this - If you're managing your own DNS fully and properly, you can have the site spread over many hosts.
As I've said elsewhere, think of the move as moving hosts (but in your case, keeping some of the data at the old one, some at the new).

Yes, I understand this conceptually. I'm just looking for assurances from PowWeb that I won't experience problems doing this -- ie databases in the new system won't be overwritten with older ones on the old, they won't shut off the old when they see the new being used, etc. I may have stuff running on both for a month or two, and don't want stuff on the old broken till I decide it's ok.
Thanks!

It sounds like you need the custom path, and that way you decide when the switch is thrown.
With such a complicated setup you'd be responsible for testing etc and only when you're satisfied that everything is OK would you 'throw the switch'.
