This question is from my son via a phone conversation.
When computer is turned on the o/s (win xp pro sp2) shows; hardware profile/configuration/resource menu then after that all the keys are dead. can't navigate anywhere in the menu. There are two configurations here ; one is for windows and the other is for gaming. Is there some corruption going on?
First off, make sure the keyboard is connected. They sometimes come loose.
If so, then try to boot into safe mode by hitting F8 while booting up. If not, the keyboard is kaput. If it boots up into safe mode, the keyboard is working. When in safe mode, uninstall the keyboard via the hardware under properties when you right click the My Computer icon.
Then reboot. The OS should reload the keyboard drivers.

I remember when my favorite keyboard died. The sensitivity of the keys were nice. I picked up a Packard Bell (cough) at a yard sale for $10 just to use the new hard drive and other parts, but now I am using that keyboard! I have another keyboard for my second desktop that doesn't like to work with the first desktop. There are even more computer parts downstairs.
Sometimes the keyboard is the problem, sometimes the drivers, sometimes the connections or sometimes it is the OS or BIOS. If you try what Doc C says and still have a problem, test another keyboard. You must plug in the keyboard while the computer is turned off, then reboot and the computer should detect the new keyboard and install new drivers.
