In reviewing all of the post concerning the access problems to PowWeb-hosted sites, it is obvious that different people are having slightly different, but possibly related problems.

One definate problem is that two routers at omnis.com are getting into an endless loop. These are brdr-router-1.omnis.com (216.239.131.249) and brdr-1.omnis.com (216.239.131.250). These two point back at the other, and once in there, your packet request gets lost.

This seems to mainly happen with powweb.com subdomains. I have been able to log in with my domain name, but others have not had similar success. This may have as much to do with the origin as the destination, as different starting points could result in encountering the loop. A proxy *might* change the 'starting point' enough to get around the problem.

From where i traceroute, dudesgroovypad.com and my domain have identical routes. I was able to get an FTP login prompt for that domain, so it should be possible to login in (from here anyway...).

Others cannot update files on their sites. I can't see how the files not updating on the host server could be related to the routing problem.... Trying passive/active FTP connections *might* change the result.

In defense of Powweb, while it would have been nice to hear something from them, i don't think that they are responsible for the routing problem. As far as i can tell, they are separate from omnis.com, however, i cannot figure out the hierarchy of the system from the little research i've done.

1. If you tracert from the same point to a domain on the same block of IP's..... you'll always get the same route.... if someone from a different location tracert's.... they will get a different tracert.... that's why it's called trace route.....

2. I'm hitting the terra.powweb.com on the first try from SC.... no loops... not even hitting the above mentioned router.... but pinging powweb.... the packet get's losts... and tracert'ing powweb .... shows the router is hanging on the request... "possible endless loop"... but not affecting "dudesgroovypad.com".... it's on the terra server

3. Powweb is probably not even aware there is a problem.... ie: long holiday weekend.....

4. if it's a new account.... and the c-name they assign to it doens't work.... it's probably on powwebs servers that maintain the routing instructions to the c-name accounts.... ie:powwebs DNS server.....

I just tried connecting to their "FAQ"'s section.... everything is down..... Main page comes up.... "SLOW", but won't connect to anything on the same server......

luckily this forum is on a different server.... or !!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!!.....
Sorry to all those affected....
