View Full Version : Should I Renew my hosting ?

Been using Powweb for nearly two years by now, like it a lot, but I wonder whether it's a good time to quit.

Below is an outline of *classic* struggle...

Why quit ?
Presumably after this whole migration, things should get better, especially for me: a wordpress user; and with all the IP changes, I could really get away from Great Firewall in China for a while.

Why not ?
come to think of it, GFW is definitely going to ban Powweb in near future; and I have been pointing my domain here to my other host for some time, changing it back seems like a re-entry of nightmare...

With a month left in the renew-cycle, any suggestions ?

In the end, you've got to do what you feel is best for your accounts.

But since you asked, I personally think the new platform will be unlike anything PowWeb clients have previously experienced. Uptime, service, support will be (and is) unparalleled.

I won't lie - concerning these first migrations - some haven't gone as smoothly as we would have liked. But for every troublesome migration we've had so far, there are 1,000 that went through without a hitch.

If your target visitors are Chinese people, I'd recommend trying hosts who offer your own IP (for additional $4 or so) and 30days (or more) money back guarantee.

With your own IP, you are less likely to get banned ... at least in theory.
And you can verify the theory for 30days (or more, even 60 days, 77 days, 90 days).

I think new PowWeb will be restricteive (for advaced users) but easier and secure for many users.
Also, it's always good to keep a backup host. I always have one.
PowWeb can be a good backup host, if not for main host, too.

PowWeb may provide the option of your own IP, in future.
I guess it's possible.

It appears you asked a question and someone deleted my repsponse to you.

I see the forum is being used as a ONE sided ruler for the problems.. I will PM you what I posted before someone deleted it..

Hopefully unparalleled at the top end and not the bottom end which it feels like so far.

With all due respect - those who are having issues don't give a flying fig about the success stories as it doesn't change the fact you have screwed things up for them. This is a typical corporate mindset where people fail to see past the statistics and figures in order to see the customers that lie behind them.
