View Full Version : Won't Show Index List of Files in Directory...

Before this whole migration thing went down, I had no issues what so ever! Today, I go to hotlink a file from my site to a forum and when I went to go search for the file, I typed in the directory and I get an error that reads:

Directory has no index file.
Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.
If you are the site's webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:

index.html
index.htm
default.htm
Default.htm
home.html
Home.chtml
NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html

I've never had this problem before. I'm no techie when it comes to this stuff so I am unsure how to resolve it! If there is no available fix or if this requires a persistent and tedious process of creating an index page for each folder/subfolder just to view my files, I am cancelling my account with Powweb and looking elsewhere!

I must agree with a prior poster in a thread:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I really hope someone can help me! I'm not the happiest of campers right now. Perhaps it's an easy fix! To someone who can help out an angry customer, I appreciate your help! Thank you!

I don't know why it would be off. You could try to enable directory indexing on your directory. To do so, you need to create a .htaccess file with this one line in it.

Options Indexes

Place it in the directory or any directory above it.

Directory has no index file.
Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.

Go to op's/site tools/.htaccess and click on 'Open Directory Browsing

Allows you to control access to the directories of your website. By default, directories require an index file (index.html is recommended) to be present in a directory. With this tool, you can choose to display the contents of a directory if no default page is specified.

The new platform has directory browsing disabled by default. You can use your OPs > Services > Site Tools > htaccess -- Open Directory Browsing to enable dir browsing for any folder you may need it.

Thank you all! Now that I have just finished doing that, I can read the directories as I was able to before. Now I have a new problem. Whenever I upload via FTP to one of those directories, I cannot see the file. It shows it's there in my FTP software but when I browse it or even try to hotlink, it doesn't work. Any suggestions to this issue?

Make sure you are using ftp.powweb.com to upload your file(s), not the old ftp##.powweb.com ftp server name.
