View Full Version : Flip DNS
I had the migration of my 2 sites set to automated. Both had "errors" at the QA checklist. I didn't encounter any, so I mailed support and have been told no errors showed up.
I ran the DNS flip tool, where it says I will have immediate access to the new ops:
Full access to the OPS control panel on the new platform is available by clicking the New OPS button below
I don't see the "new ops button". Is it where it says "lagacy ops". I don't expect so.
Also in the flip dns dialog there is a link to this new ops, but clicking it sends me back to the migration kiosk.
What am I doing wrong?

If you are not experiencing any errors for QA, then please contact support and tell them to do a Flip Run. That should propagate your DNS to the new platform.

I have a similar problem. There are a few errors posted, but they involve a subdomain or cgi script. They will be corrected after the dns flip. I only see the Legacy OPS link and no new link as expected. I suspect that it will appear after the domain name actually points to the new server.
I better remember to use the NEW mail URL mail.powweb.com to access webmail. If the OLD mail URL doesn't work, I guess I will know that my domain name is pointing to the new server. I must also change my ftp server name to ftp.powweb.com in FileZilla. And I must test my second domain name to see if it points to the subdirectory. And check webstats which are currently password-protected using .htaccess.

Good luck Yvette
I can remember doing the FLIP DNS thing, it required a browser clean out and re-login to see the New OPS option - if I remember correctly it appeared Greyed-out but still worked.

I knew my domain name was pointing to the new server when I could not access my webstats (the old way). I cannot view webstats using http://username.powweb.com/stats/ until tomorrow, I would suspect. But what about the old stats?
After the DNS flip, everything worked but one tellafriend.cgi script which is quite old. I can replace that with a php script. The formmail script worked as expected. The printer friendly version cgi script works. The php/mysql database works. The second domain name points to the subdirectory. I am unsure about .htaccess files. Even all of my mail migrated successfully (I think).
After DNS flip, I see this in OPS:
Your Migration Path: Migrated
Status: Complete
Migration activity on your site is complete and your site should be functioning normally.
New OPS button appears.
Overall, it was quick and painless. If this was a dental visit, it is more of a cleaning than a tooth extraction or root canal. I personally have never experienced a root canal but my mother and my husband have. I did experience tooth extractions before wearing braces. Look at me now! :D

I am now logged in from a totally different computer (at school) than the one I usually work with, so it cannot be the browser cache. I still get the migration kiosk and the migration attempt sheduling (in the past of course):
Status: In QA
Attempt scheduled for 6/13/2006 10:00:00 AM [ More ]

We attempted to complete the migration of your site and encountered a quality issue. Our migration team is currently reviewing your site to attempt to correct the problem. If we are able to do so, we will complete your migration and notify you when it is complete.
I also have put the "mismatch" files of both my sites on "ignore" after checking the sites. Did the flip DNS thing for both sites to no avail.
Correction: I just have successfully completed the DNS flip for 1 site (pego.be). Will see wat happens for the other one, but the most important of the two should be ok now.
