I have been and am still working with POWWEB’s tech support on my e-mail setup but since I have not gotten a total resolution yet, and we seem to have a wealth of experience here, I’ll give this forum a shot.
Before I start, here are some items I will make reference to:
a) master acct – this is the version of the email account which resides on the http://mail.powweb.com mail server and as seen using Webmail (logging in at http://mail.powweb.com)
b) client acct – this is the version of the email as seen using Outlook 2000 on a computer which reads mail from the master acct
=== start ====
A. Customer’s (me) Requirements:
===============================
1) I need the ability to read my emails from different computers (clients), each using Outlook 2000. Thus, each client must be able to see an exact ‘image’ of master acct (the master copies of the emails must remain on the master acct)
2) be able to create folders in Outlook and having the folders show up on the master acct
3) successfully send and receive emails
B. Suggested Approach:
=====================
Tech support instructed me to change my client mail account from POP3 to IMAP as POP3 was not able to meet my needs, the main issues were as follows:
1) duplicate e-mails appearing in my Outlook’s Inbox – even when Advance settings such as “Leave a copy of message on server” and “Remove from server when deleted from ‘Deleted Items’” were selected
2) when creating folders in Outlook, they do NOT sync up with the master acct
C. Observations (positive):
==========================
Setting up my client account as IMAP has resolved the issues of:
1) duplication of emails occurring in my Outlook’s Inbox.
2) Syncing up folders created on the client acct with the master acct
3) I can received emails.
D. Observed Issues:
==================
1) I am NOT able to send emails to accounts outside my yourdomain.com . (I can send emails to accounts created within my yourdomain.com acct)
These unsuccessfully sent emails DO show up on Outlook’s “Outlook Today – [Personal Folders]’s Sent Items” folder.
2) Frequently getting the following “Mail Delivery Error” message, regardless whether the email is just sitting idle or when active receiving/sending email:
“Could not fetch new headers in the inbox for YOUREMAIL <this is my email acct name >. An unknown error has occurred. Please save an existing work and restart the program.”
< this problem could be caused by the issues POWWEB is having currently with its email and FTP functions, I am not sure yet >
=== end ====
If you have a suggestion(s), it would be greatly appreciated that you:
1) ensure you have read all details listed above (this is something the tech support people seem not to do since they are probably very busy)
2) have possibly tried your solution and it meets my requirements
Thanks.
