This is a site I am creating for a client. I have only worked on the basic template for a couple of hours. The site goes no where. However, please make comments on the basic template / look.

Good start.

I thought it was a little too colorless until I happened to mouse over a picture.

Personaly I'd love to see the four pictures in color and when I mouse over they can enlarge a little bit, perhaps with flash? Photography sites are renowned for using flash to protect their pictures with so I image the client will want some implemented.

Quick question, what does "Lorem Ipsum" mean? I see it on a lot of templates.

Thanks for your comments. I realized when I went to bed last night that something was missing and it was color - so I spoke to the client today and we both agreed with one of you guys that the photo icons to the right need to be in color.

As far as the spacer - this is just a template that I exported via fireworks - it will be completed with HTML and CSS -so that will be taken care of. Good point though.

You know thats a great question. I have been doing design for many years and all I knew was it was latin and it looked like every template design had it in there as fluff text. I figured because the designer wouldnt have to fill it with their own fluff.

Drop some greyish green in there for a really nice contrast. Other than that I like the minimalistic design. The pastels are very popular now.

It means I am too lazy to type related contents or my client didn't provide any text yet. ;)

I personally like the template and the color scheme. I love the sepia tones which are neutral and do not compete with the images which are the main focus. The page does have horizontal scrolling at 800x600 screen resolution, but the images did fit in the screen view. The design is similar to others I have seen created by graphics designers. Still, I like it.

DO NOT add color anywhere else! Use color sparingly or just for the portfolio. You do not want to distract the visitors. I like it the way it is. When the other pages are created and the photos appear here and there between text, people will appreciate it more. It looks very classy and professional.

I am not sure where you will be placing the copyright info. Will it be below the background image or over it? Usually, I give a speech about how dark text on a light background is easier to read than light text on a dark background. But there is enough contrast here. When you include your copyright info, you will probably place it above or below the image design that can compete with the text.
