It appears that this page loads fine if your site isn't too big. If it's a little larger like mine, then you might have a problem. I'll see what I can do.

Maybe have it not scan the entire site for compressed files...
Why not just allow the user to browse to the file or at least write the path to it?

I agree. A lot of these tools were developed just for PowWeb and the migration. It's possible that this is just a bug that no one thought of or had been reported until now.
