I loaded some slideshow's made with Proshow Gold onto my sight and all was well. After all this change over business, they do not work any longer. I tried reloading them and I get the same thing. This is what I see now www.taneuberger.com/webshow.px
Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Can you post the link so we can try it ourselves? Did you reupload the slideshow from your local computer after the migration? I think the file was corrupted or transferred using the wrong extension setting. Some files are uploaded in binary mode while others are ASCII mode.

The link is in my orignal post. I thought when I tried re-uploading it was after the migration, but I will try it again tonite.

I tried the link you posted, but I didn't know if that was a page or just something a web page loaded. I still suspect that it is corrupted. Try reuploading it. Good luck!

Yep, thats what is brought up now instead of the window for playing the slideshow. I'll try it again tonite, but I suspect it's not going to be fixed. I'm worried it's something in the code that now does not like the "new" powweb.

You can use a link to download, but I don't think you can play the file in a web page. I am not sure if you can do that here. We were unable to play executable files before but I don't know now. I don't think you want people to download the files, do you? You could convert the executable files to video files or Flash swf files. But you wouldn't use Proshow Gold to do that.

Like I said, they worked fine before. People would go to the link, and if they had already downloaded the plug in from Photodex, the show would come up in a player and play just fine. If they had not downloaded the plugin, they would be directed to do so from Photodes.
All changed during this whole server change thing. I just deleted a couple shows from the server and re-uploaded from my local computer and am getting the same jibberish on the screen.

Okay, then people would install a plugin to view the show AND it would play (execute) on the server.
I already spoke with support who claimed that the server is a hybrid and we CAN use different things that didn't work on the legacy Unix/FreeBSD servers.
Please try another method of uploading the files or recheck your FTP program. It still looks like you are uploading the file in the incorrect mode. Try all modes. Try drag and drop to ftp in the browser.

There were a couple shows on the server that had been there since before the migration, they worked before, but not anymore.
I loaded some new shows since the migration, still don't work.
I use WS FTP for all my uploading and have never had a problem with it.
I will try to drag n drop a show tonite using my Window's Network Places browser, but I gotta believe that is futile.

Maybe it's a mime-type issue. If i'm not mistaken, the mime type for this type of file would be application/octet-stream. You can edit mime-types here: http://members.powweb.com/webControl/htaccess/?m=mimetypes

I don't recall seeing that feature before. But then I haven't used a rare mime type (yet).

That's why people have to ask in this forum! ;)
I don't recall seeing that feature before. But then I haven't used a rare mime type (yet). It's in the .htaccess editor area, which probably why as you probably do that editing off-line in a text editor program.

You are absolutely right (as usual). I use Notepad or another plain text editor and not site tools in OPS. Thanks!

Well, looks like I'm screwed then as I have NO IDEA what a "mimetype" is nor how or why to change it.
I think I will just have to go through customer service so they can get things workin again for me.
Thanks for the help.

Log into OPS, click Services, click Site Tools, click .htaccess, click MIME Types. Under Select Directory, you will see a selection of directories inside htdocs and some outside of htdocs if you have any. Select the directory in which you have your slideshow. Under Add New MIME Type, type the extension of your file (px), and under MIME Type, type the appropriate MIME type (application/octet-stream). I am not sure if this is it, because I didn't try it. Give it a try and let us know if it works.

Cool, thanks. I got it to now pull up a download window and it downloads and plays. Before, it did not pull up the download dialog box, but I guess I can live with that.
Problem though is that it only works with IE and not Firefox. It use to work with Firefox. Any thoughts?

I got it to show the download window in IE6 and the latest version of Firefox. I don't have the player, so I didn't play it. Do you have a page that gives your visitors the option of downloading a player or telling them what programs support your file extension?

I can download it in Firefox also, but it does not play. It is very hard to explain what should happen so go here http://www.mckolayphoto.com/vegas.htm this how my slideshows use to be and how I would like them now. If you don't have the player, you should be directed to the website for it.

I just got your file to work in a web page.

Cool, but what does this mean? I've got it to work too, but still only in IE and not the way it use to display.

I tested the web page on my computer but linked to the file http://www.taneuberger.com/webshow.px on your web server. I didn't try uploading the html page to the web server to play your file. I thought you would try it to see if there was a problem with YOUR server. If I try to view the file directly from http://www.taneuberger.com/webshow.px , it doesn't play in Firefox.

Very sorry for my ignorance, but I'm still not quite sure what it is you are telling me?
Am I supposed to change something?

When I used the HTML web page to call your px file, I was able to view it in the browser. If I simply use the URL for the file in the web address bar in the browser, I am unable to view your px file in Firefox, but in IE I get the prompt to download the file. You should use the HTML page for people to view the px in the browser without having to download the px file itself.
