MySQL Slow

I have a Drupal install on my hosting plan and it's not an instant install of Drupal. The loading of my site has been extremely slow. Is there any way of speeding up the MySQL database? Also where can I edit the "my-conf" file?

You can't edit my-conf file - that's for global MySQL server settings.
