Hopefully you folks can help shed some light on this for me.
I am trying to create a pop3 with the user name "jack".
However, I keep getting an error that says that the user name "jack" is already in use.
The problem being that there are currently only 4 pop accounts for my site (the shell and 3 pops), none of which are "jack".
Any ideas why I keep getting the error?
Thanks...
Usernames are unique to the mail system; aliases are unique to the domain.
If the username you want is taken, choose one that’s not. Then under the SMTP tab in Ops, point the alias you want to the username you have created.

Thanks starr, but just to be sure I understand this correctly...
Because someone else has jack@theirdomain.com, I can't have jack@mydomain.com?
I have never heard of this before. Why does someone else's username on their domain have any effect at all on what my usernames are on my domain?
I'm not criticising, I'm just curious. The only reason I ask, is that there could be the potential of many different people having email through my site. I think it will be difficult to try to explain to someone who can barely turn their computer on that their email name known to the outside world is different than the name they have to login with.
What are the chances of the usernames being unique to the domain instead of the system? Is this something you folks are going to impliment at some point in the future?
Again, I am only asking because I am curious as to how the mail system for Powweb works so that I can explain it to other people. Is it because of the way the mail is routed through the server(s)?
Thanks....

I am also having the same sort of problem. I understand that it is needed to have a diffrent username from other people since everyone uses the same login.
The problem I am having though, is if someone has taken the name Coco already it is impossible for me to create a pop3 account which uses the e-mail Coco@domain.com. I realize I can go in and make Coco@domain.com forward to any of the users that I want but the problem comes with when I want to reply to someone. When I reply it sends the e-mail as username@domain.com. So my question is, is there anyway to make a user account under one name but then allow it to reply messages and make it seem like it is coming from a diffrent name?
I'm sort of upset with myself for this error because, before ops I had create the accounts and they logged in with the number in front of there name but the e-mail worked the way I wanted it to and now with this new system there seems to be no way to make an account with one loggin name mail stuff out under a diffrent name.
