View Full Version : My last (??) tech question? (I doubt it!)

OK - so my web site is up and running (WooHoo!!) Domain name was transfered to PowWeb.com -- all is right with the world...right?

Not exactly. There's one last "detail" I can't seem to answer. When I moved my domain name to PowWeb (through VeriSign, Inc.), I wasn't able to update the host NIC handle, because I don't know what PowWeb's NIC handle is!! The server info was updated (of course - that's how I moved the domain name), but my old host is still listed. I know HOW to change the NIC handle, but don't know what to change it to!?!?! Any help???

Thanks -- the support I get from the community forums is WONDERFUL!! (OK - so a little "buttering-up" can't hurt, right??)

You don't need to worry about the host's NIC. In fact, it's probably best that you be the contact for the admin, billing, and tech sections.

If for some reason there's a problem with your site/domain record, you'll likely want to know about it ASAP and being the point of contact for each section will do that.

So rest easy...

Butter's good -- and now it's actually good for you! Or at least not as bad as everyone was saying it was... :D

I agree. I've been my own best support agent starting back when Network Solutions was the only game in town. I've used several web hosting services over the years and had less of a hassle being the contact. If you change that info you should update it to your NIC handle. Better yet, now through August 31 you can transfer your domain to dotster.com (http://www.dotster.com/home/) for only $8.95 plus your time left with NSI transfers.

Excellent deal! Does that include the additional year's registration?

You get your year from dotster plus whatever time you have remaining from before the transfer.

Just F.Y.I. Godaddy.com has the same offer. I think it's $7.95

Well, I’m under the .US & I wanted to preorder the name & Powweb was not taking preorders on them. I’ve never had any problems with Godaddy but from this point of view I guess if your happy with Powweb it’s worth it to pay a few dollars more to support them since you can’t beat their service price for what your getting. (Powweb please stop bending my arm ;) Just kidding) Most of the newcomers are not too happy right now with the server problem last week but I think they’ll change after they are here for awhile. Overall it’s a great place to be. See Jason, now you scared me. But everyone needs to register where they feel most comfortable.

Welp, when I have a host and tey offer domain name registration, twice as much or not, I stick with them. It only makes sense. If there is a problem, they sure cant blame anyone else, plus I'm just lazy, I admit it!.

Regardign the upset people, I was one of the worse ones.......but its all better now. I am very pleased with my accoutns, as everything is working great. Maybe I am just geeked, but hey, **** happens. I didn't really complain about the outages, I even stuck up for them for a few days. It was the lack of communication. Being self employed 100% I can understand geting flustered and hoping that one next thing you try will fix it all so (is this a run on sentence) y tell anyone whats going on because its going to be all fixed up. Then a few days passs and you realize you haven't eaten, slept, or gotten any from your wife who is now filing divorce papers because you didn't come home. Whew, thats a mouthful. anyways, too many beers.......
