I am getting spam mail from people using the following:
"Valued Customers"@mail3.powweb.com

I DID NOT sign up for being placed on mailing lists! Please remove me from these lists immediately. This is outrageous. Isn't there some kind of privacy statement that we agreed to???

Have you checked the headers of these messages ?

If you still have the messages handy (Ie youve not deleted them) PM me & I can have a go to check if / where the emails have originated ..

I'm still new to powweb - Still waiting for my 2nd confirmation email - about my site - But i am a "bit" experienced with Emails..

Send a message to me privately...

marion,

That just means that 1) a PowWeb customer sent you spam, 2) someone was able to use mail3.powweb.com as a relay, 3) simply used "Valued Customer"@mail3.powweb.com as their return address or 4) someone forged their mail headers.

Gorstew can help you sort it out. :)

the sender address is forged. 99.99999% of all spam headers are forged in one way or another. Forging email headers is ludicrously easy. Lately it's been the vogue for spammers to use the recipients' own mail server addresses as a return address.Originally posted by RSaucier
... 2) someone was able to use mail3.powweb.com as a relay ...Robert,

PowWeb does NOT have any open relay mail servers.

Mirzabah,

Didn't say it was open but what you said needed to be said. :) I s'pose I should've attached the likelihood of that particular item. :D

I know PW has worked to secure the systems as much as possible but nothing's 100% secure unless it's, well, turned off. :D

Thanks for your post. You're right. I am just so inundated with garbage that I freaked out on that one. I know well about spam problems.

Right Mirzabah - " Lately it's been the vogue for spammers to use the recipients' own mail server addresses as a return address."

My default mailbox has been taken over by these thieves about 1 1/2 years ago, and it still gets 1000 + of that stuff daily.
I can no longer use it and with my previous host, I could block it off. With Powweb, there is no way to block, so I was going over there and having to check off each individually, delete and then expunge. Shift and down arrow doesn't work and there is no "select all" option. It was horribly slow and frustrating. I finally configured "Becky" to receive it so I can delete with one action.

Thanks, Gorstew, for your offer. I planned to hold onto that one, but went to look for it, and I obviously deleted it along with other spam. I receive mail now only in my designated pop boxes and this came into the one I try to protect with my life.

I used to chase these people down, flame them, complain to their isps and get them kicked off, but there are so many now, it's way beyond anybody's ability to clean them out. I had Attorney's General in three states after the ones who stole my domain address because they were running scams. The AG's said they were on it. But I found the main office in my own town about a
mile from where I live!!! They did shut them down, but not before the damage was done and my domain address was plastered to scammers all over the world. I think these bulk mail people use people domains to create fake lists to sell. Well enough....

Thanks again.

As has been posted before either direct your catchall email box or if the spam is just being sent to a few addresses to a dead link like zzz@sadfgw.com (just make sure it not someone else’s mail box)

I use the mailwasher program because it bounces the mail back & then deletes the mail. I don't get much spam (YET), but a friend gets a lot & this program works great.

hmmmm.... Metro...
That's real interesting. I am going to download Mailwasher and see what happens. Maybe I will eventually get my default mailbox back.

Thanks.

Marion :)

Wow Metro... this Mail Washer program is simply incredible. If it keeps doing what it's doing, I am going to send a donation to this guy. He deserves some kind of medal...!!!!

Maybe after a year and a half, I just might get my default mailbox back.

Glad I could help you, Have fun & enjoy.

John

P.S. I also just tried using a filter in mailwasher on an email address that I get a lot of junk & don't use at all. I set the hide option & now I don't even see the mail going to that address.
