View Full Version : Question about moving a parked website to here..
Hi,
I currently have an active website that I would like to move here.. That website was pointed by my parking service elsewhere which I have an active email address with.. I signed up with PowWeb and just changed my DNS server to here and it should be propogated by tomorrow or so..
My questions are..
1. Do I have to disable my parking service so my URL will work or it will work automatically if the DNS is propogated?
2. Will my email address work uninterupted?
I just wanted to make sure that I would not loose any business during the move..
Thanks!

1) Do I have to disable my parking service so my URL will work or it will work automatically if the DNS is propagated?
A) Yes, you will need to delegate your domains host information to our name servers to use our services. You may run your own DNS. If so, we have something about this in our FAQ section, http://powweb.com/faqs
2) Will my email address work uninterrupted?
A) Yes, email will go from flowing to your current MTA to ours. There may be a day or two while DNS caching clears when you get email at both places.
Welcome to Powweb agrinins!!!
Like Starr said you shouldn't loose any email just make sure to check both accounts for the next week as some peoples DNS caching updates more frequently than others (like mine is very slow).
Best Regards,
Thank you for your responses!.. The move went pretty well except for one thing.. my old server was a MS 2K server and was not case-sensitive.. but after 3 hours of fixing all the cases.. it went very smooth!
I will go and check email from my old server.. Thanks again for the tips!

I really wish that I could say the same. However, my site has been down for over 3 weeks now during the move. I updated all the DNS information and checked all the Admin areas and waited for 5 days for the caching of the site and STILL my site is down!
I have NO idea what else to try. I still get the "Page can not be displayed..." blah blah blah and in Netscape the "There was no response. The server could be down or is not responding. If you are unable to connect again later, contact the servers administrator".
If anyone knows of anything else that I need to do PLEASE help :)
I have not received any email either which is really hurting my business.
my web site is:

I have accessed your website:
http://www.indigo-webdesign.com
as regards to email settings, make sute they are set-up as described in the help.powweb.com/tutorials.
Are you using the webmail? http://mail.indigo-webdesign.com
Hope this helps!
http://indigo-webdesign.com/ comes up fine for me as well at this time. :)
As I'd stated to a previous post of yours, your web site does come up fine for me here in North Dakota.
I like your Dalmation logo on your intro page,
you need more than a web site...you need someone to pay attention to your business & design a web site that will fit your needs

Thank you. Do you think I have a caching problem? If so, how do I fix it?

Be sure to clear your browsers cache.
If you are running any type of firewall, make sure that it is not blocking the IP for your site.
Other than that, your ISP could not be updating their DNS database as they should. But I can't see them not updating in the time period that you've mentioned.

Well I do not know much about Firewalls so I doubt that that is the problem. Unless I unknowingly did something. In an effort to get this site going I have done alot of things. But because I am unsure of the Firewalls and how they would react I doubt very much I have done anything in regards to that.
I am not sure about ISP. Since I have not had any problems with any of my other sites, wouldn't this be ruled out too?

go to your site...when it loads...press F5...this could help!
well I tried f5 and still have the problem. I am sooooo frustrated with this whole thing! I would also like to know why the heck some of my other sites come up differently when you key in the www. as to when you don't. Why does it do that?

there seems to be a problem with your ISP cache...I would contact them for more help!!
ok I need to ask a dumb question...who is them? I don't know anything about ISP caching. The only thing I know about caching is the area in the internet setting that says, "check for newer versions" and it gives you some diff. options, at which I have it set at "every time".
Where is the caching settings so that I can fix the problem?
Thank you for your help :/

The ISP is your internet service provider....the ones you pay to surf on the net!
