i'm wondering... why do we have to make a Unique name for our mail... its kinda dumb that everyone at powweb has to make a unique name for our mail because they don't have it set up so that if our email is fred@yoursitehere.com your username is fred.... its kinda dumb and it just makes it harder for me... just wondering why, because all the other hosts i have sites on they let me have the username i want... anyways i'm glad i can finally login... i was getting mad yesterday because it wasn't letting me in.

Hi Hosemeyer

As I understand it, when you are on a shared server like we have at Powweb, all the email user names are basically dumped into one big file. That is why each username needs to be unique. This is not only true for the email users, but also for your account name, too.

It is simply a matter of first come, first served. I think it is a relatively small inconvenience given the price and the level of services provided.

Just my humble opinion.

Not only that but for billing, provisioning, accounting, ftp, and on and on. Similar to why people have different credit card numbers, social security numbers...

Whether the web servers are using virtual hosting or not isn't so much the issue since there are a number of web servers and mail servers so technically we could have duplicate usernames between the mail servers...but everyones in the same billing database and it wouldn't make sense to set up a seperate database for everyone who wants to have a duplicate username. Provisioning would be a nightmare. I have never seen a hosting company do it any differently and can't think of a way to do it differently. Besides, you can make your email address at your domain whatever you want so that aspect is hidden from the outside.
