View Full Version : Misleading FTP New User Info

The FAQs and welcome email indicate that I would be able to upload my files immediately using the temporary FTP address (space.powweb.com), and I would see my files with the temp http address (domaincom.powweb.com).
After reading this message board, it appear that I have to wait until powweb sets up my diretories before I can do anything.
Am I missing something here? If not, Powweb should really make it more clear for new customers.
Your "Package Setup : " e-mail should have said:
"is now being set up. All services will be active within 30 minutes."
and later:
"You can FTP your files ..."
It would probably help if the time length were modified as it's taken some packages as long a 5 hours to be set up. Even changing "will be active" to "should be active" and adding "but may take a little longer depending on server load." might be a good change
Changing the text to indicate that you should wait until you see an "htdocs" directory when you log in might be good as well.
Personally, I don't think it's misleading with the exception of the "will be active" part. If someone checks in after 30 minutes and doesn't see the directories, they would tend to think something is wrong.
I don't know if this answered your question or not ...

You are correct. It is not misleading. It is just plain wrong.
"All services will be active within 30 minutes."
That did not happen, so obviously I would expect that something is wrong!
P.S. I'm looking forward to transferring all 20 of my domains to PowWeb from Hosting.com... I sure hope this first one works, cuz if not, it's $155.40/month in lost revenue for PowWeb.

Normally fom our own personal experiences and chit chatting, it is availible within 10 minute to upload and view. Cut em a little slack, its a great package and all the features they offer are hard to beat.
My account was viewable within around 5 mintues.......but you right, the welcome message should be changed.
It has been over two hours for me today... It sure does make you wonder if there is a problem or if it is just taking a bit longer today.

s-wings,
None that I no of for .us domain names. Your site comes up and then redirects to /page99.html. Is that what you want it to do?
Well sure.... LOL
Thanks for pointing this out. I noticed it doing this a couple of hours ago, but just figured it was part of the delay from the old host to powweb. Now I have no exceuse, got get the books out and recall how to HTML.
I guess just lifting the code from the auto bulider at the registars site and FTPing it here is not going to work without a bunch of editing. Likely time to scrap the old and start fresh. ;-)
Thanks
