Gallery2 install error

I have Joomla install using installcentral.
when I try to install Gallery2 and use the path "/" that is the same as the Joomla, it create a big mess.
I want to know in future should I create a new folder under htdocs call photo
and should I also create a new mysql database to protect the joomla database or not.
I want to be safe therefore I do a site backup already.
any suggestion welcome.

It is always a good idea to keep separate the different installs of CMS's, forums etc. by using different folders in htdocs

As you have 75 Databases available (you can request more if you've only got 5) then you may as well use a different one for each installation.
