Hello,
I have TONS of space on my powweb hosted account, and I have registered 2 more domain names, because I want to set up completely different websites, and would like to use all of the available space I have my on main Pow Web account instead of having to register a separate account for each.
I have been able to set up Web Forwarding, for each new domain to redirect to each subdomain, but unfortunately for Search Engine Optimization, it is only a Temporary Move 302, when for SEO, you need s 301.
I am able to Custom Edit my DNS Settings for each domain, but would there be any way to point them to a specific subdomain on my account?
In otherwords.
I want
www.designdevelopdream.com to point to designdevelopdream.briandoakes.com
and
www.longislandphotographer.net to point to longislandphotographer.briandoakes.com
But had the domains set up as permanent moves.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
thanks,
Brian

You do this in .htaccess.
Have a look in that forum for the correct contents needed.
This shows you what to do, first one worked for me.

ok, i did the first step which is add the domain to Pow Web, and changed the DNS settings with my account manager... however it doesnt look like it took.
from what I read, when the changes taken effect the new domain should essentially point to your current domain... is this correct?
http://www.designdevelopdream.com/ shows a basic Net Sol coming soon page!
shouldnt it point to my current www.briandoakes.com site?

Yes, that's correct. Perhaps some more time is needed for the change to take effect. Usually this doesn't take more than an hour or two, sometimes as much as several days though.
It took - I get the same pages from both addresses now. If you don't, try flushing dns cache.

I flushed the cache.. still getting two separate pages.
By DNS cache, do you mean something other than your IE internet cache?

It could be your ISP's cache. There's not too much you can do about that, except spend some time doing nothing but wait..
Oh, and your second domain points to http://www.briandoakes.com/home/index.htm for me too, so at least the first step is taken, just not finished yet..

thanks yeah it now goes to my main site..
Snowmaker thanks for your help... I am having a hard time understanding the directions on the link in changing the .htaccess file.
Do i need to use all of those codes?
And, can i have the .htaccess point it to subdomain.briandoakes.com or does it have to be briandoakes.com/subdomain?

No, you only need one of the examples, there's three listed in case one of them doesn't work for a particular situation. I'm not sure if any of the codes listed will work for sub.domain.com, rather than domain.com/sub/, but try it out. If you run into any difficulties, post in the .htaccess forum as I'm sure there you will get some better assistance

ok, i got it to work to some degree..
If you go to www.designdevelopdream.com it now brings you to the correct subdomain.
Only problem being when i do a Server Header check, the 301 Moved Permanently does not show the location it's been moved to.
Also.. is there a way to mask the sub.domain.com to just have the DNS Name www.designdevelopdream.com?
thanks
