View Full Version : Subscribing to a forum
Maybe I'm thick, or getting old -- but I dont think i'm really that out of it .... BUT I've spent twenty minutes searching around the Forums trying to find out how to re-subscribe with my new email address...
It was pretty easy to get unsubscribed from the old email address, but damned if I could find ANY place to click on any forum that said "Subscribe to this Forum" ... until finally I clicked on the itsy, bitsy "Forum Tools" and found one of the drop down choices is to subscribe.
SUGGESTION: Put at least that 'tool' (Subscribe) out in the open, where it can be easily seen ... put it just to the left of the Forum Tools, but make it OBVIOUS so people can see it without spending an evening hunting everywhere.
Thank you. !!
The location of these things isn't likely to be customisable. vBulletin decide on the location. Maybe this should be addressed at a vBulletin forum.
I have no idea what or where vBulletin is... nor did I choose vBulletin for the PowWeb forums...
All I did was post an observation of how the screen layout was not "user friendly" to me, and probably to others.
Though I really do find it hard to beleive that super programmers who can create and keep PowWeb running couldn't find a way to add another obvious link in their application of vBulletin... most of the other 'bulletin board' programs I've looked at give you a great degree of customization of the screen layout -- if PowWeb is using vBulletin because they selected to use it, then I think you made a serious choice mistake if you cannot customize the layout and the links.
And, as a user and customer of PowWeb and PowWebForums, it doesnt' seem to be MY place to have to find a vBulletin forum and go there and try to convince them to change their product -- even if I were able to do that, I'd still have to convince IanS and PowWeb to change their screen layout... my point remains, I spent a helluva a lot of time trying to find out how and where to subscribe to the Announcement forum notices, and a high-value link like that should be obvious to the most casual user.
Hmmm...I found the link in about 20 seconds. And hadn't even had my second cup of coffee.

So the message when your first get to the site that says "Register to...." and the Register link at the top of the page wasn't obvious enough?
Is it possible that you were still logged in and didn't have this option becuase your OLD loggin information was being held in a cookie?

You don't have to convince me of anything. I'm a customer of Powweb in the same way you are. If I didn't like something that was beyond the control of Powweb but was in the hands of a third party company (vBulletin is written by Jelsoft - look at the bottom of every forum screen) then that's where my complaint or obsevation would be directed. In all the time I've been using these forums the issue of where to subscribe rarely comes up. It's not a 'Hot Topic' for most. Most people here would like to see Powweb fix things that they produce/control/sell and that are broken like access to MySql servers, CGI, The outgoing mail filters etc

That is something that I have seen happen to clients who share a computer. Of course, I am usually logged into this forum, so I don't remember where to register. I could delete my cookies and clear my cache to see where to register and if the link was easy to find. But I have noticed on other forums that the link isn't always easy to find, while other forums are extremely easy to find.
