View Full Version : FTP client giving Access denied.
How can I fix this? I have downloaded Joomla and I want to upload it. However, each time I try to do something, it gives me Access denied. I cannot add/edit/delete files and folders.
So, what should I do in order to do things using an FTP client?
FTP address: ftp.powweb.com
I can succefully connect and I can go through all my files. I get access denied each time I try to create a new folder, delete a folder. I don't have that error when I'm working using File manager in here. I did upload some files using File manager.
I'm using smart FTP at the moment. I'm not sure if it's a problem from the client or not. My url is: http://theodor.powweb.com
The problem is likely to be folders created by the Instant Install software at Install Central. Folders created via that route can't be deleted by many users and a request to support is needed to remove the folders. As you've noticed, the permissions are set wrongly and you're not the 'owner' of the folders.
apart from that. I cannot even create a folder in my htdocs folder. Is that normal? I can do that from the File manager, but not while using an FTP client. How is that possible?

If you can't create a folder within your client FTP program then something is wrong with the settings for that program or the account.
Try a different program first. Try filezilla - it's a popular choice for Powweb users and works well within the Powweb FTP filing system.
I have downloaded FileZilla, and I'm having the same problem. What might be the problem? What am I missing? Is it something in the permission or something? .htacecss perhaps? I don't know ...
How can I use the file manager to upload a folder? I've just downloaded the latest version of Joomla, and I want to upload it to my website. How can I do so?
I never thought I find myself saying this... but maybe you should ask support@powweb-inc.com :wreck:
\Yes, I've had to say that a lot more recently and I agree, this is now definitely a case for support. Make sure the issue you raise first is that of being able to create folders etc via FTP. (Better still, make it the only issue you raise.) When that is resolved, then ask about Joomla!

Did you resolve your problem finally? What was the cause? because I have the same.
Edit: Nevermind, found the problem :p

you uploading the scripts, and it failed.
then problem is with the FTP. you need to go to control panel and double check the setting and access right. what is the root access etc.
