View Full Version : Why is "Outages/Service Problems" a forum?

As I have stated in several threads I know I get what I pay for. Luckily, most of the server outages/problems/issues/annoyances have not caused me any major problems. However, if you are going to have a forum labled "Outages/Service Problems" and there is an issue, why isn't it posted here? I just finished reading a thread where PowWeb admittedly knew there was an issue with a Perl script, and yet there was nothing posted. I also saw a link in that thread to a notice about the CGI rollout. I initially thought it would be in the "Outages/Service Problems " forum, but again nothing posted there.

I am suggesting that the forum either be removed, or that PowWeb actually use it.

On a side note: Did you realize that 99.9% uptime still allows for about 525 minutes (8.76 hours) of down time per year?

Legacy Powweb were very good at posting in the Outages forum you're referring to. Unfortunately the staff at Endurance haven't quite got the hang of regularly posting in these forums.

I agree, even if they simply posted the links to the system notices section of Powweb each time, that would trigger an e-mail to those subscribed to the Outages forums and therefore notify quite a lot of people of the problems (or upgrades).

Yeah, but we keep trying to encourage them. At least some of the staff has visited the forums.

Endurance uses announcements in the forum and in OPS, but they don't like the Outages forum. They don't want to draw attention to outages and do not want people to be notified of problems. More people probably are unaware of the outages since many people do not visit their websites daily. People who run forums visit their sites more often and notice outages much faster.

Well, I think customers are currently using the Outages forum. And the Outages forum threads are only viewable for a few days, then they are removed, I believe. Other forum threads are viewable longer and are often closed when resolved or old. So, will PowWeb keep the Outages forum? Probably if they only want outages reported, but not advertised for the general public to view. ;)

I think the Outages/Service Problems being referred to is the Official one, not the User Reported Outages one.

You are correct sir!

I was talking about the official one. The user reported one is very active and very helpful for me to know if I should be checking my site for an issue.

The official one has little or no activity and seems pointless if theya ren't going to use it.

Oh? Is there an official one? (sarcasm) You are correct. That one is rarely used, users cannot post responses there and they are also displayed for a limited time. I almost forgot about it, too.
