View Full Version : sending just one email address to the bit bucket
I'm used to allowing all emails to my domain to come in (catch all).
When I start getting a spam email from a certain address I go in and selectivly dissallow it (send that one email address to the bit bucket). Now it looks like when I try to do that I am forced to send all "non defined" address's to the bit bucket.
How can I implement this functionality I am used to? I used to use .qmail commands to do this on a previouse hosting service. Now what do I do??
I'm not sure I quite understand what you are trying to do, but who knows ... In the E-Mail section of the control panel (OPS), click on Spam Settings and set the Threshold and Handling Options the way you want them. You can easily make all spam messages accessible to yourself in your Inbox or your Spam box. Then you can add certain addresses to a personal domain Blacklist, also found on the Spam Settings page.
However, the Blacklist feature seems to me to be pretty useless at blocking spam because as soon as you have added one address to the list (or even all addresses of a particular domain, using a wildcard) then chances are the spammer has changed addresses used for spamming anyway. I think it's pretty rare to see spam from the same address more than once. To use the proverbial metaphor, the horse is out of the gate so it doesn't do any good to close the gate at that point.

You can blacklist one of your own email addrs from anyone sending to it in the greylisting settings.

OK, so I have to use the blacklist to kill that address instead of the way I used to do it.
What I do is, when I give out email address's to a store or organization I usually give them <theirname>@mydomain.com
That way, when spam begins to come on on thier address I just block them and I know who sold my email address (EFAX, hitchesonline ect).
Thanks for the help...I was about to switch to another host that worked like I was used to.

OK BLACKLIST does not work because for me to block an email address it has to be defined as an address in my domain. I want to block just certain "undefined" address's but allow all other undefined address's to come through.
I catch ALL emails that come to me by default. I give out a unique email address to everyone I deal with (something like NEWEGG@<mydomain.com> or godaddy@<mydomain.com>
SO I need to be able to selectivly blacklist email address's that I have not defined mailboxes for.
I was able to do this before the change by sending <name>@<mydomain.com> to the bitbucket.
Now the default seems to force all undefind email address's to the bitbucket. I dont want it this way.

Blocking a single address used to work OK for me..sometimes I get flurries of random emails to <anything>@mydomain.com but they usually die off in a few days.
They are usually limited to a few address's and I block those address's. Just that since the change, I cant block a single address to my domain unless I make a mailbox for it.
THIS SUCKS!!! I'm going to switch hosts if I can't resolve this.

The only way I found to block an email was to create a forward and then you have the option to block it.

Ditto. I posted this in another thread, started by you, OP.
In OPS Mail Central, create a forwarding address, 'Create Forward'. Use a valid address to forward to at first, then edit this newly created address, deleting the forwarded to address, and then select 'Route to Trash' the 'Return to Sender / Route to Trash' category
