I am working in making an improved dmoz.
It has left some retouches, but I already have a process making the snapshots, validating URLs...
If you want that your webs appears in the directory you can add them from here:
http://redmoz.org/add_url/

Any suggestion is well received.

I like your color and your purpose of your site. But I do strongly recommended you change your layout. The text field boxes are too closely crushed together. If you change that it would be more friendly to guests.

When I entered my URL, one of the boxes was for "tags". I didn't know what I should put there. Everything else seemed very smooth.

When you ask for email addresses, I think you should somewhere state that they won't be revealed to anyone (e.g., be sold to spammers).

When websites tell you that do you really believe them?

I tried a search and since there were no results for that search, I saw this:

Page 1 of 0. Total records 0:

I feel like I am viewing page 1 even if there are no results. That just looks funny to me.

Page 1 of 1. Total records 34:

When I searched "internet", I got 34 results on one page. Most search engines show between 10 and 20 results per page. That is the recommended number, because too many is overwhelming, requires more scrolling and can be a problem with other search engines that don't like too many links on any given page.

I had clicked the link to your website, so I didn't see your home page until after I clicked the logo to see the categories. These categories can get full and may need subcategories to help people find exactly what they want. You may want to include the category and/or subcategory in the Suggest URL form. The category can be a drop-down option while the subcategory may be a blank, so you can create subcategories now or later as you get a specified number in that category.

Most websites are in the English language or have an English option. The listings are currently appearing in the submitted language and is a mix. This may be good for some visitors, because they can click links in their native language, but this may be confusing to other search engines. I like that you have the language specified in the submission process to help visitors who may want to translate results. A link to Babelfish or another language translator would be helpful.

Allowing people to submit comments becomes work as you must filter langage and spam. With people posting in their own language, this should be an interesting and ongoing process. Sounds like work to me! Good luck!
