Hello everybody. I am not a trained web designer, I am just an art student who knows a little html and managed to get a job running this website. The site is not hosted by PowWeb, but i just thought that the pros here would be a good source for feedback. I am just wondering what you all think of my layout, graphics, and navigation system. I thank everyone in advance for any critisism they can give. Here is the url:

As per normal forum policy for 'non-hosted at Powweb sites', (and those that are) comments are invited.

The overall design is simple and easy to read and navigate. The about us page has some text appearing as images. Why? Search engines and text browsers can't read images. The services page could be more descriptive. Repeat your manufacturers and part names here for people and search engines to read.

The links page has a strange URL http://www.scannerparts.biz/servlet/the-template/links/Page which could be better. Try http://www.scannerparts.biz/servlet/ScanningTips or something similar.

The contact page has the business contact info above the feedback form, but it is easy to miss as it is squeezed into that narrow space. More text could be helpful here. Or perhaps a slight change in text color.

Some of the product images blend into the background. See scanner lamps. Most people will know what the item is when they order, but it would look nicer if the images were clearer. I know that you are at the mercy of the supplier of such images, but if you can sharpen the image or adjust the brightness, that would be nice.

The website says it supplies new and used parts. I did not see/notice any mention of NEW or USED in the product descriptions. This should be clear on each item. Speaking of missing information, where are the privacy, payment, refund and shipping policies? I must have missed them, too. I could not find them on the Site Map.

Okay, I think I will leave some comments for other people. ;)

The first paragraph that begins "Scannerparts.biz has them all." would look better align=justify. Maybe in a few other places too.

The box that begins "We welcome all questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions. If you cannot.." on the Feedback form page is not formatted properly for me. It laps over the form boxes about 25%. -- Oh wait, now it is ok. Did you fix it?

I don't like that the site map is in alphabetic order mixing important site info with the whole product list.

From the FAQ, "All items should be in stock." I know what you are saying is good, but saying it that way doesn't inspire confidence. Especially since your header claims "Always in Stock".

"..by viewing your cart. However, final shipping costs will.." I'd leave out "However, ".

"The minimum purchase of $0.50 has not been met." Do you have items for less than 50 cents? I was expecting "your cart is empty".

"We may use the information we collect to periodically notify you about new services or special offers we think you'll find valuable. If you would rather not receive this information, you may send an e-mail .." I don't like when I am forced to opt-out.

Seems to work well. No navigation trouble. I think the dead black on the left is too deep. the black/white contrast is painful.

Good luck.

I was thinking the same thing! I had to go to the chiropractor, so I didn't mention the other verbage on the website, but I knew someone else would.

A script was probably used and that was the result. I wasn't crazy about this, either.

Too bad I was in a hurry the first time I looked. I don't like this, either. Most places have a check box where you can opt-in or opt-out when submitting information. I usually opt-out from the start.
