Progress is being made. I think all of this week and next will be devoted to moving the CGI platform to LDAP (a way of giving everyone their own unique unix id). The next move, as I hear it, will be to upgrade MySQL to v5.0. Somewhere in the mix, the connection limitation will be resolved. If there are any changes that need to made to MySQL hostnames, that has to be planned out and addressed. I'm not sure if we plan on going through and updating everyones scripts for them or just giving everyone a deadline to change it themselves. Either way, when you have 100K customers, you have to carefully plan your approach to change.
It will be at least two weeks until we see the issue resolved. The important thing to note is that it will be resolved.
I just read through the plan here and I am not understanding why this has taken 2 months to formulate. Furthermore, we have been being told that the MySQL servers were going to be upgraded, yet I do not see that anywhere in the plan.
I was under the impression that the WHOLE migration thing WAS the upgrade? I think what has happened is that they have found out that Powweb had a lot of users that utilized MySQL/PHP and the like, which apparently the new Powweb was NOT ready to handle.
Unfortunately for us, the Customers, we are stuck with this continuous cycle of excuses and lack of results until Powweb finally does "fix it" if they ever do.
According to josh, it will be resolved. However, that has been the ongoing responses I have gotten ever since the migration. 2 weeks leads to 2 more and so on...
By the way, Your sites load really slow if at all. and my sites are down right now...Two more weeks of this?

To my knowledge, we never advertised the migration as a upgrade. We might have said that there will be some positive upgrades or changes, but the whole thing was never positioned as an upgrade.
And I'd agree. I definitely think we under-estimated the saaviness of the PowWeb community, but that isn't to say that we haven't responded. All activity and change we've been experiencing lately indicates a progression towards a more developer-friendly robust platform.
What makes the MySQL issue unique is that it was somewhat masked by the issues we had with the CGI platform. It wasn't until CGI was revamped that the issue related to MySQL revealed it's ugly head.

Then we shall continue to hope for a positive outcome.

I have seen this happen elsewhere. They upgraded mysql4 to mysql5 since their customers insisted on using CMS that are resource hogs. I wish customers would make better script choices or the developers would think about resources when creating or upgrading their scripts.
