Take it for what it's worth to you...

Granted I just signed up today.

Powweb compared to the competition offers a great deal when it comes to storage/bandwidth along with features. Their CPanel is also pretty easy to navigate, has a fresh look to it and has decent features.

My only complaint is the fact that they make you activate the 'cgi manager' on your own in order for PHP to function on your account. The problem is that by doing this you have to wait until the server restarts. This they claim is done because not all their clients use these services. I think this is a poor excuse because in the package these features are advertised, so regardless if they are used, they should be there. Long story short: don't plan on dev'ing and/or getting your site up for nearly 24hours after activating the cgi manager - depending on the time of day you do it. They pretty much destroyed my weekend because of this for the fact that I dedicated it to get some work done.

This is a customer help customer area. Do you have a question?

Long story cut short - don't expect everything to be the way you want it.

Hmmm, I thought that dmacminn stated in another thread that cgi was now enabled on all new accounts by default.

I manage several accounts here. Only Dave's cgi was not enabled when the account was created. After the migration, the new PowWeb had the dumb idea to have cgi disabled when creating an account, so everyone could complain when they even wanted to use a simple form on an otherwise static website.

After many complaints and a suggestion on the wishlist, PowWeb agreed with customers that cgi should be enabled upon creating an account. So, perhaps it is but just missed this account like what happened to Dave, or maybe they haven't actually corrected this on the new servers.

There is actually an advantage to not having it active immediately ... it means that Spammers/Hackers who want to create an account; set up a spamming/hacking script and run ... have to wait until the CGI loads ...

but, I do understand that it also means you can't use your account immediately, which is a disadvantage ---
I suspect the change would be to "Enable" the CGI on newly signed-up accounts (so you don't have to go an click the Enable)-- that would mean that you would still have to wait until 9:00AM or 6:00 PM ET for the fulfillment to run, but if you forget to do so, at least the system would auto-fulfill

"My only complaint is the fact that they make you activate the 'cgi manager' on your own in order for PHP to function on your account."

If that's your only complaint, wait till your code and database are actually up and running with any traffic.
