What is the best method for getting rid of a user that has decided to hijack a message board? Seems like there is a user that has decided to post in multiple threads with the same message over and over again.

I hate to ban people, but this users seems to be offering no alternative.

FIrst you warn them via a PM, then if it continues, they've left you no alternative. You ban them. And watch to see if they attempt to come back in under another alias.

Depends on what message board software you are using and what admin features on the board are available for you to use. I had this happen once. (and only once).

I placed my board in "defensive mode". I made a usergroup where all posts must be approved before appearing on the board and placed the offender in this group. I then switched new member registrations to where I had to approve membership before allowing posts. The offender quickly becomes fustrated when he posts away and discovers nothing is happening. And when the offender attempts to register a new name, I stop him in his/her tracks by not approving the registration.

After the offender leaves and moves on, I place the board back to "normal mode."

Like I said, I only ever had to do this once in 10 years of running a board, but it worked like a charm. Good luck!

If all else fails, shoot them (Live Free, or Die Hard)

No way, in the trailer, they try to drop a cab on McClane and Farrell that goes bouncing off of two other cars. So there.

Uh, I think we've hijacked this thread. Oooops. Apologies to entrecon.

Oh sure the "car flying through the air taxi-cab stunt". I must see this in cinematographic IMAX resolution. I have a need for pixels, scan lines, resolution, and all that other sexy stuff.

I cannot live off the red and blue pills and those silly cardboard glasses any longer

I'm sorry too entrecon.

entrecon, there is a really nifty troll mod that can be added to your forum. I have the info stashed away in my email. With the troll mod you add this person as a 'troll' and it makes its nearly impossible for them to post in the forum. It creates problems for the user that just appear to look like your forum isnt working right. It does stuff like boots the user, they can only log in every 5th(or so) attempt, makes the page load slow, or they get error messages, just general annoying problems for the user and the idea is that they just give up after awhile because the forum is too difficult to navigate or post.

ACME offers an app where a big cartoon mallet pops out of their monitor and smashes them on the head! Not really, but I'd buy it. :D

Ohhhh this sounds way cool. And a heckuva lot easier than moving your database to mysql10, which apparently would have the same effect :p :p

yeah....09 seems to give this effect lately too! ;) But seriously, I thought about adding this mod awhile back when I was having a problem with a troll and was spending too much time trying to get rid of him...he did disappear finally, but I saved the info on the troll mod.

Thanks all...My post was based on the fact that I visited this board last night to check on new messages and found that an individual felt that their annoyance with PowWeb had to become an annoyance to all of us as well. They had managed to post to multiple threads with the same general complaint. Seems like the troll mod needs to be placed on this board to get rid of a certain little troll.

Many of us are frustrated with PowWeb, but that frustration was added to by this individual that seems to think that by annoying other users, PowWeb will listen to him. Instead of adding to this forum he has detered from it. Instead of reading his posts, I just ignore them. It would appear he has gotten the opposite of what he was looking for.
