I am using Shopsite Pro 8 (the latest version) and have been trying to create a folder path for downloads. Right now, there is a "downloads" folder in htdocs/store/data on powweb.com with zip files. Shopsite says that my store is on powweb.com.

In the Shopsite "Add a Product" area, the "Product Download Location" does not recognize the path that I type in and says it does not exist. When I click Select, a popup window appears and displays "Downloads" folder with nothing in it. Wherever I move MY Downloads folder to, Shopsite does not recognize it.

When I try to upload a zip file from my computer in the Shopsite area (I can easily ftp the files to my account on powweb.com), it goes through the motions and then says "Permission denied".

Where do I put a folder for downloads that is recognized by ShopSite?

Can someone help me please???

Thank you in advanced.

You say Downloads and downloads. Powweb is case sensitive so check that and the folder should be Chmod to 755.

I checked the folder and it is lowercase. ShopSite still won't recognize it even though I moved it back to the store/ directory and deleted the data folder.

What is "Chmod to 755"?

I looked at the Mode of the folder which is 755. ShopSite still won't recognize it when I typed the entire and partial paths to it.

I've searched the ShopSite Pro online help files and can't find any mention of a "Product Download Location". Have you contacted the people who sell it for help?

It is under "digital download" section of ShopSite. I will call Powweb in the morning about permissions.

You're trying to upload then? The path it's asking fore is the path to the local file on your computer yoiu want to upload. There should be a browse button. "If you know the pathname of the file that you want to upload, type it in the first box. Otherwise, use the Browse button to navigate to the file."

"The file upload feature is convenient for uploading files one at a time, but FTP is more convenient for large batches of files. All of your digital download files are stored in the download directory of your store, which you can find in italics at the bottom of the Digital Download Files screen."

The download folder should have been created in it's default location when you originally uploaded the folders/files to setup the shop. Check where it is in your local original copy of the folders on your computer. No use calling Powweb, call ShopSite.

NOT!

You need to use the facilities inside ShopSite to add content... the Powweb system runs the ShopSite store on dedicated ShopSite servers with key information stored in configuration areas which are not accessible from the user account -- in addition, the system does not store the databases in an accessible format (it is encrypted for additional security).

As part of the security, the Powweb ShopSite system will outright refuse to use a directory that is under user control -- so if the permissions/ownership are set so as to allow FTP access, the store will refuse to operate.

Moral of the story .. use the file upload feature.

I was quoting the ShopSite help files. That's good to know thanks dc. Do you happen to know where the download folder should be?
