View Full Version : I need FFmpeg
First of all, i'm sorry if i posted in the wrong place. Ok i need FFmpeg on my account. I contacted support and they told me that I can't do it. Like they told me some stupid bla blah (no offence). So, how can i manually install FFmpeg on my account? I really need this, so i would really appreciate if you helped me. Thanks for reading.
Just what did Support give you as the reason for it? From what I see on Wikipedia, there may be patent issues regarding the use of that application.

I asked the same over a year ago and they said the did not support it and would not do an install.
I looked at doing it myself, but deceided I would need some serious handholding and backed off.
Support told me that it is not installed on the server but didn't say that i can't install it on my account. So, i'm going to install it manually. Any ideas? Because i need to do some commands and stuff.

It's not installed or supported. It takes alot of grunt to run it. I don't know if you can actually install/run it on your space here. Might be best to install it on your machine and pre-process your files.
If I remember correctly, ffmpeg requires that you install a binary file to run on the server. That is not acceptable nor possible on Powweb's new platform system.
oh i guess i can't install it on powweb. thanks for helping though.
Ffmpeg was supported in the past by Powweb (legacy Powweb). I used it created online thumbnails for my online movies (than saved it so I needed only to create it once for each movie).
Then, with the installation of the new platforms, the support was discontinued. I remember that I asked the question to the helpdesk and the answer was that there was no way it would be ever again supported and there was no way they would agree that someone would install it locally.
Given the very few people that would use this feature, given the alternative of preprocessing the files on your local system (ffmpeg also runs on Windows) and given that some people could kidnap the CPU, I think this is a very good move, even a mandatory one.

I think it is not supported, because it uses a lot of resources and should be discouraged for shared server environments. Customers should create thumbnails on their local computers and upload them to the web host server.
