Hello,
I recently installed OsCommerce on my website http://keyartpromotions.com/catalog/ & from the beginning I received the "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage" error about 1 time in 10. I'm using the latest version of OsCommerce & have installed very few mods (& again, this error occurred from the beginning).
For a while I thought it was my connection speed - I'm having some network problems - but I'm having the same problems when I try it on other networks...
Ideas, solutions?
Thanks,
JD

Your shopping cart loaded the first page quickly for me. In a few moments, I could see the item I clicked. I was looking at the 8½"x11" brochures in full color (both sides) on 100 lb gloss book stock, but I didn't see a full color example.
Do you use text-based sessions or database stored sessions? Text-based sessions seem to work better for shopping carts and create less overhead in your database. Log into phpmyadmin and check/optimize your database (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=76604) tables.
Also check your CGI error logs in OPS to see if you get the "max user connection" error. If so, there were at least ten concurrent connections to your database. Yes, you (admin) are one of ten allowed connections and so are search engine bots.
Your website is new, but someone else on your server may be using more resources. Check your webstats for Internal Server Errors (ISEs) and you may see several 500 ISEs. You should report slowness or inaccessibility for CGI (php) in the Service Perception Index (SPI) in OPS.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate you taking the time to help me with this; from other posts of yours I’ve found I can see that you know what you’re talking about.
Text vs DB sessions: I don’t know, & I don’t know how to change this. The only Google reply to my question was an archived Powweb thread that you had wrote in! The OsCommerce forum mentions nothing about it.
Optimize: They were all “OK.”
CGI error logs: Nothing like that, no.
Webstats: Only a couple of 500’s, many days ago, nothing to do with this site at all.
Service Perception Index: I’ve reported this on the Service Perception Index, if I can’t solve the problem from these boards I’ll put in a ticket, of course.
BTW: I don’t know if this has anything to do with any of this, but when I went to “Operations” in phpMyAdmin, it said “Error
The additional features for working with linked tables have been deactivated. To find out why click here”on the bottom of the page. Following the link, the page said, “PMA Database ... not OK[ Documentation ]
General relation features Disabled”

Thanks for posting your error. You can link the link for more info. It will tell you that you may have to set up a new database with correct permissions and then make some changes to the config file.

I did that; I'm afraid it was clear as mud. I guess I could delete this database & reinstall OC... Do you feel this error may be responsible for the slowdown?
Thanks.

kauffmanstreet, http://keyartpromotions.com/catalog/ loaded instantly for me just now. I clicked a few pages and they were all fast.
Did you follow my instructions in my first reply? If so, then when you experience downtime, report it to PowWeb.
maecenasaliquam, can you send your URL to me? You don't have to post it in the forum thread if you are worried about too many connections.

Just to wrap up this thread, I have deleted the db & reinstalled it without result. I'm turning this over to Powweb today.
