Yeah I used Live Chat, fixed it. Also upped the number of databases to 75 for that particular account while they were at it.
I always had this question in mind but never asked it.. why is it that in OPS it says 5 dabases allowed whilst the new packages have 75... are we allowed 75 now? Shall we contact support to extend the limit or it should have been done automatically like what happened with the disk space?

Yes you have to contact PW.
Most use the live chat thing.
Based on your comment about the automatic disk space increase... you may be in for a pleasent surprise. The Disk Space limit is 300 GB, Bandwidth is 3,000 GB/mo (yes 3 terra bytes), and the 75 database. All of which have to be "asked" for via support.
On my two accounts total time was about 6 minutes and it happened fast enough that I was able to see the upgrades reflected in OPS while I was still in live chat.
You will need the answer to your security question ready.

That's great... disk space is of no issue to me as I do not even use 500mb but I need a couple of more databases.
PS: It's great to offer 75 dbs to all... but I wonder whether this will further slow down the mysql servers!

Powweb just don't publicise it
It's on their main page!
And just how many people who frequent the forum frequent the front page? Aside from when I login to OPS, I sure don't. :)
Or when I have to re-read the ToS.

I meant offering 75 dbs to all... including old and the new customers.
It's on their main page!I'm looking at http://www.powweb.com in another window and I can't see reference to 75 MySql databases nor reference to the fact that existing customers can be upgraded for free.
Maybe I'm seeing a different international version, but I don't think so. Maybe you're seeing a cached version.
My point was about Powweb not publicising the upgrade to existing customers, not that they're available for new customers.
Actually you don't see any mention unless you click the "Learn More" button and go about halfway down the page. It's in the section marked databases.
I still don't see where existing customers are mentioned... Oh, isn't this a lot off-topic?
Very much so. I'd apologize but it's a sign of weakness according to L.J. Gibbs on NCIS.
And besides, Croc started it! :D (he's gonna get me for that!!)
They've been offering this for quite a long time (since it was introduced to new accounts - Powweb just don't publicise it), so it's not directly impacting the problems with the MySql servers.
It could be coincidental, or it could be my faulty memory, BUT it seems to me that the MySQL issues started happening shortly after the 75-databases/account upgrade.
Just my opinion, but it could be a user-caused issue if lots of people create lots of databases, some never used, some infrequently used, most never maintained, and some very large... servers could be taxed looking through a proverbial forest for a specific tree. Just think if you had a pair of white socks, a pair of blue socks, and a pair of brown socks.... how much time would it take you to find the blue socks -- now if you had 300 pairs of socks, white ones and blue ones and one brown pair of socks.... and the time it could take you to find that ONE pair of brown socks.... you get the point. In the competitive hosting market, PW has to offer a BIG number of databases..... too bad users don't have to be cautious in how they use the 'resources' they feel are their right to use and abuse.
Add to that the use of scripts that are less than efficient in using databases and bingo-bango-bongo we're all into the land of lag. And none of us are happy.

Exactly Charon, I delete old unused databases and use the same database for several little apps with a different prefix as there's only a few tables/app. I've never really needed more than 10 databases at any host. I reckon only like 0.01% of Powwebs customers would use 75 if that.
I have 5 in use and if I could figure out which one has my live forum on it, I'd remove the duplicated forum one that I have.
There are the two forum ones, two Wikis and one Coppermine. I guess I could have put them all in the same database, right?

Sure you can Doc, just use a different table prefix when you install each app. However I would advise you not to in general. Gallery's forums etc are pretty bulky apps and if the one MySQL server is slow, your database gets corrupted or dies all of your apps will fail.
To cleanup: Goto your working forum, download the config.php file and open it in notrepad. Check which database name it's using. Goto OPS and delete the other unused database. Of course make backups first.
Thanks for the info, Croc. I'll do that tomorrow morning. Too busy eating ice cream and watching Underworld now!
I thought you could put them all in one db but knew that could be dangerous. I'd hate to lose all in one fell swoop.

Why was my post deleted? All I said was that whilst having 75 dbs is great, I hope this won't further slow mysql!!!
Moderator - what's wrong with that?
It wasn't deleted, it was in this thread!

Like Ian says, it's in the thread otherwise I couldn't quote it. It's number 3.
Edit: Thanks, Croc. It worked perfectly.
