I must be slow, but I can't figure out this one.

I have registered 4 domains that I am trying to establish on PowWeb. I am now ready to upload the second one, but don't understand how to accomplish this.

I purchased the oneplan, so have lots of space, but don't understand how to set the space so I can have different domins. I want them to be Independent of each other and stand alone. The information when I signed up said that it could be done, and now I am lost.

I keep getting referred to redirect method, but it would be cheeper to register more users.

Help

the short version is to put each site into a folder in htdocs, then use the new domain pointing tool to point your domain name to the subfolder.

if the domain names are not registered with powweb, you'll need to add them to your account and set the domain names to powweb's

I'm guessing you registered the domains somewhere else, and want to use it at PowWeb? That is what I do, I have 17 domains that point to my account - with about 8 of them to unique sites which have nothing to do with the others. (and most of my sites are "static" so very little traffic and can easily handle that many)

Anyway, in OPS don't click the "add more" since that will send you to PowWeb trying to get you to buy a new domain. Go to the "Domains" tab along the top. Go to "Domain Pointing" sub-tab.

At the bottom you can add another domain there. You can also point to where inside htdocs you want the domain pointing. So if you have a domain XYZ.com - I would make a folder called XYZ under htdocs - and put the new domain & site there. And then it will look like a stand alone site

(and of course, if you have the domain hosted elsewhere - on that site, you have to change the name servers to ns1.powweb.com and ns2.powweb.com)

That's debatable. You don't have to use PowWeb's nameservers but they like you to, presumably for support purposes. I use a third party service that allows me much more flexibility than PowWeb would do. It's more work to set-up but it does have its advantages and they far outweigh what it costs me to do this.

But yes, it probably is easier to user PowWeb's nameservers.

What would be the advantages (disadvantages) to not using powweb's name servers? And how would that work to get the domain pointed over to PowWeb. (Other then doing a domain pointer on the 2nd site - in which instead of just worrying about 1 site being down, if either of the 2 sites are down (the host or the pointing site), your site would not be accessible.)

I need to use mail.mydomain.com to point to my e-mail provider's web-mail site. PowWeb do not allow mail.mydomain.com to point to anything other than a PowWeb server despite what the setting in Domain Central may actually show. All I do is to set my A records to point to the IP address of my PowWeb server, 65.254.250.107. Other web-hosts are more restrictive in what they allow which is why I am here and not elsewhere.

The downside to this is that the IP address can change without notice. The first you'll know is when your A address doesn't work. Those using Powweb's Namservers will have any change made 'invisibly' (at least in theory!).

Agreed, but in my case the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

And that all important IP address has yet to change in the eight months that I've been here. :D

It has only changed once as far as I can recall in the time I've been here so changes aren't frequent, just possible.
