I just helped a friend of mine sign up for powweb. He signed up for 1yr at $69.24, which I though was just for the first year and after that it would revert to what I've been paying which is $93.24, however in his control panel it appears to me to indicate that his yearly renewal price will be $69.24, even after the first year. Basically am I misinterpreting this or has powweb dropped the price for new customers while maintaining the higher price for customers who were here for several years? My control panel is indicating that I will be charged $93 when I'm up for renewal next year.

As far as I know, renewals are at the rate of $93.24 annually. At least that's what I paid on my renewals a couple of months ago.

On the page where you buy your hosting, you'll notice there is an asterisk near the price for one and two year subscriptions. It points to "$5.77/mo for the first year only, $7.77/mo thereafter".

That's what I thought, but what made me think twice is when my friend logged into his control panel the wording makes one think that the $69.24 is a yearly renewal price and what my friend will pay 1 year from now. It may be that the wording in the control panel is ambiguous. I wish I had copied it verbatim.

It is $93.24 annually -- with a discount to encourage signup only.

All specials we run for signup always renew in subsequent years at the regular rate.

I think it should be the other way around. Rewards those of us who are going to remain loyal to you instead of the newbies. Unless you enjoy setting up new accounts and then having terminated within a year.

It's the way the business world works, rok0808. I don't know about yours but my ISP, wireless provider and cable company all pulled me in with a lowered rate at first. All of which went to the standard pricing when the promotion expired.

Technically, if you cancel and then re-subscribe, they don't have to give you the discount as you are a returning customer not a first timer. At least that's the way it is with most companies.
