I haven't had a computer long and everything I've learned, I've learned myself. I couldn't even type. At first I felt too stupid to ask for help, but then I thought "look what I've achieved so far. How can you feel stupid?"
So here it goes, I know how to load a program into my computer but I can't figure out how to save it on a disc. I have a Dell Windows XP, and something about AOL 9.0, I have no idea what a browser is. Can someone help?
Thanks so much,
CARMA

LOL:

First of all, A browser is the piece of software you used to get to this forum and post your question (even if you accessed from AOL, the part of AOL you saw this page in, its a browser).

Secondly, what kind of disk are you trying to save to? is it square and about 3 and a half inches per side? or is it round with a hole in the middle?

Saving to a disc is sort of the reverse process of loading a program. You are taking what is on the PC and putting it onto the disc. (It can also be spelled disk as in floppy disk, disc is for Compact Disc like the ones music are on.)

What operating system are you running on? Is it Windows 98 or Windows XP? That will help a bit to know. When you turn on your machine, do you see a screen that says either of those two things? If so, then that's what you have.

I have a Dell Windows XP

is the browser asking you to save something to disk (disc?)? if so, that would typically be the hard disk, which is in fact harder than a CD or a floppy, but a lot harder to move around. You would then need to choose a place to save it...or perhaps your browser has made that decision for you.

Good catch, tpoynton. I read right over that.

Another quick note here...I have a newish Dell here (about 15 months) and it does not have a floppy disc drive. It appears many new machines are omitting them or only offering them at an additional cost. Most people are saving to thumb drives that run off the USB port or just burn a CD.

If a friend has asked you to save something to a disc for them, you will have to look at other options for saving data IF you don't have a drive.

Please give more information on what you are trying to do so we can provide better guidance.
